i'm also pretty heavily in disagreement with the article. so you are telling me that with the explosion of craft breweries across the country in the last 10-15 years, somehow wine & cocktails have still managed to overcome beer as whole?
nah, i doubt it.
nah, i doubt it.

My brother is big on the old fashioned, just get a fricking whiskey sprite. So much better and easier to make.

I hate when they try to get all fancy, went to a place the other day slightly hungover so I decided to get a bloodymary before switching to beer. The bartender got all fancy making it with locally sourced bitters it took 10 minutes to make and then when I finally got my drink it tasted like dog shite
. Just get a bottle of zing zang and some vodka that's all I wanted.

Article is behind a paywall. Are they discussing total consumption numbers, or is it just analyzing what is happening at "bars"? If it's the latter, might it not be explained by the proliferation of taprooms (which sort of didn't really exist as an entity several years ago), where lots of people are flocking to exclusively drink BEER these days, whereby, when they go to a generic old fashioned "bar" they may be more inclined to order a mixed drink instead?

I just don't know how InBev will survive with a 3% decrease in alcoholic beer sales. Hopefully they make it through the next 12 months

Again, I really don't think it is fully a "millenial" thing.
Women are going out to bars more now, and women drink wine and cocktails.
Bars used to have to do ladies nights just to get the ratio down from 4 dudes for every chick.
Now go to Bayou Wine Garden on any night of the week and they outnumber guys.
I think men are drinking just as much beer with the craft beer explosion.

One day you’ll grow into a man.

As long as the beer tastes the same, this is a good thing.

By age, I absolutely fall within the dates of being considered a millennials, but I have very few traits/hobbies/habits in common with what millennials are defined/described as.

AMEN!
We need to go back to the days of the High Life commercials where they blatantly called guys like that, pussies. My favorite is the guy in his yard watching his neighbor try and fail to back is trailer/boat in to his driveway.

Typical millennial, identifying as something you’re not.

Went to a bar in SF and the drink menu had about 20 cocktails that were, no shite, a minimum of 8-10 ingredients. There were 2 people ahead of me and it took me 10 minutes to get a whiskey rocks.

I also see way more women drinking beer than in prior decades. So it seems hard to believe.

Most of those places are easily avoided with a quick google search. Any place that says “upscale place serving a modern twist on cocktails” quickly gets the nix.
