Depends on where. It’s fairly common in some of the higher-value burbs (Alpharetta, East Cobb, Vinings)

Maybe, but it goes plenty far if you have a normal mortgage, 2 reasonable vehicles, you can still put 10% into your 401ks, and there are lots of price ranges for summer camp and vacation. Live comfortably doesn't mean 2 new cars and wasting another $30k per year on useless bull shite.

There's a word you used in there that many people don't seem to understand.

Hint: it's in bold.

My wife is a stay at home mom. We have 3 kids, and I gross $90k a year. My son went to 2, 3 day camps this year for baseball, and we just signed him up for fall baseball.

No government assistance (I make too much), I put about 12% into my 401k, 2 paid off vehicles, about $125 in cell phone bills (since that ridiculous item got thrown in), and we can still save $400-500 a month. Oh, and we have cash set aside for emergencies.

It's not hard to live within your means. Alot of people just seem to think that living within their means involves luxury items.

I miss spoke it’s 15k to 22k per year not 2200 per month. I’ve done the math a 1000 times and I thought I would come out ahead by a lot by moving to Houston but those property taxes are a bitch.

so i havent looked in about 5 years but when we were going to move to Houston pretty much my property tax and income taxes in LA was going to be about the same as the property taxes in Houston.

private school would have went away but would have had to pay for the private after school care which was close enough to not be a big savings as suggested by many in these threads.

i do find it funny and enlightening when people post what they make in these threads. Makes a lot more sense on why so many on the OT are so so concerned with what others spend their money on and how they dont understand you can fully fund retirement, college funds and still have plenty of money for extra things like a boat, sports, vacations etc.

people that have a household income under 100 are not going to understand how someone can afford certain things and assume everything is on credit.

You can't read either?

The other poster was malding about paying 50% tax rate and I bet he was only looking at his withholdings and is way over withheld and has zero clue what his actual tax rate is.

Everyone is "middle class". It's just part of the American psyche.

truth and a big issue.

for some reason in america its frowned upon to be wealthy.

ftr this is considered midddle class in louisiana

quote:

2-person family middle-class income range: $37,312 to $111,378

3-person family middle-class income range: $43,139 to $128,774

4-person family middle-class income range: $54,792 to $163,558

in louisiana, below 66 is lower middle, above 100 would be considered upper middle class.

quote:

Texas

2-person family middle-class income range: $44,975 to $134,254

3-person family middle-class income range: $49,410 to $147,494

4-person family middle-class income range: $57,212 to $170,782

below the above and you are poor, aka lower class.

above those ranges and you are wealthy. notice i didnt say ultra rich etc but you are upper class.

It would be far less if local, state and federal taxes are stripped.

I think what we’ve seen in this thread is that people define comfortability as maintaining their standard of living. If $233k was based on a national number and we can agree that Louisiana should be somewhat lower, we’ve seen a pretty accurate response, proportionately speaking.

I thought the same thing on quick math of 6% state tax in Louisiana but once you actually look at your W2 it’s substantially less.

I was off by damn near 10k on what I thought my state income tax was vs what I actually paid.

$233k doesn't go that far after taxes, mortgage, car payt, car ins, cell phone bills, travel ball, maybe a vacation, investment savings & summer camp for 2 kids.... nothing excessive than your neighbors

My family has never made that much. After 25 years we're gettinh near that.

You can be comfortable. And we've accumulated millions (it's a low plurality, but it's still plural).

That is because Louisiana dropped to 4.25 percent on incomes over $100k.

Opposite question. What high income is it ok to spend whatever you want? $500k, $1 Mil, $$1.5 mil?
To let your life style really creep up. Say that you are saving 40 to 50% of your net pay, so soild savings rate. What high level monthly expenses would you be ok with? $20k? $30k? 40k?
