From what I've seen, vehicles are really what gets a lot of folks.

But people just can't bring themselves to drive something a little older and paid off.

They'll make excuses about safety and reliability but it comes down to pride.

I guess. I mean, my kids are skinny and active and eat a lot. Also, fast food prices have gone up a lot over the past year. Bought my kid a medium value meal after his basketball tournament at Wendy’s and it was over $9.

Eating out is expensive these days and $1000 a month on food for a family of 4 is pretty reasonable. I’d be thrilled if that’s all we spent, but we also enjoy eating and drinking out with friends.

Sheesh, you can get a Popeyes chicken sandwich meal for like $6.50

Most of the people balking at the childcare number either don’t have kids or put their kids in one of the daycares that does just enough to keep the kids alive during the day

Yeah $1000 bucks isn’t ridiculous at all.

Was mainly calling out your original $60/$120 post. Seems like we’re in agreement

We spend $600-700/mo just on groceries for 2 adults and a 15 yr old not including any eating out.

We’d save a couple hundred bucks a month if Mrs Sun god didn’t throw out perfectly good food that was past it’s expiration date

$128k seems like a reasonable number. We are fortunate to do a good bit better than that now, but we had many years in the past where we didn’t sniff that number.

I understand well that people are resourceful when they need to be and a bit wasteful when they don’t have to pinch pennies, but op was talking about how much to feel ok.

Yeah, now start listing what it takes for two kids in private high schools.

Our pre-k is $14k and that is a discount from what we paid in NYC.

$15 a person at a fast food restaurant?? I’ve never seen a sober person order $15 worth of fast food

Chick fil-a:
Cobb salad - $8.89
Side Mac and Cheese - $3.49
Large Sweet Tea - $2.25
Tax 10%
Total = $16.09

And that’s not over eating either, that’s a completely normal meal. Which is crazy bc I had a really high metabolism as a teenager and routinely would eat the taco 12 pack from Taco Bell for $12. 12 fricking tacos

Not really. At all. Pretty much every daycare worth damn charges $250-$350 a week where I live.

I’m not a brain surgeon but also not making 128k. I wouldn’t trade anything for all 7. They are our only true legacy. Money is great but nothing compared to having kids.
