Shows there's no real poverty here so they have to pretend.

A study in the early 2000s, asked a similar question, how much money would you have to earn to feel rich, with an unexpected outcome.

No matter what tax bracket they were in, over 80% listed an income that was double what they were currently earning.

I don't doubt that.

Yeah, now start listing what it takes for two kids in private high schools.

Probably closer to $50 fast food and $60 at the fast casual places.

I got fast food at a chicken finger place today and it was $11 without a drink for 1 person. Add in $2.50 for a drink and 9% tax…

I made about that much this past year and I don't feel financially okay. On top of that my wife made something and I kicked off a side business. Maybe just being a little busy and not having a lot of serious earnings from the side business yet make me feel this way. I guess we're definitely doing okay, but I would not have started the side business if I didn't feel like we could use more money.

that's a pretty reasonable number, especially for a family

I guess be thankful you don’t have teenage boys.

it’s rare we ever get out under $100.

I pay like 800 every six months for insurance on two fairly new vehicles and a bass boat.

Maybe 500 on groceries a month with household essentials.

450 for one vehicle and nothing on the other.
700 house payment (with insurance)
Maybe another 300 on utilities
Both of my kids are in school. That’s basically the bare bones of our expenses. Family of four.

A lot of people aren’t just good at managing money. I bought my house about ten years ago and instead of drinking or partying away my money when I was single, I saved. Put a lot down on my house.
I had a co worker quit about six months ago. I can only assume he was making around what I do and lived check to check. He was on his third house in five years and probably 8 vehicles between him and his wife. He’s making probably double now and still lives check to check.
But they live in a 300k house and drive 65-70k vehicles one lay off away from losing it all. I couldn’t live like that.

My buddy recently put himself through the torture of figuring out how much money he's spent on daycare in his life. I think it was like 280k and he isn't done yet.

They aren’t wrong. Let’s assume a family of four.

$1,500 mortgage
$2,000 in childcare
$1,000 in food
$500 in car notes, insurance, and maintenance
$300 in utilities

We are at $5300 before anything. Before retirement, before clothes, activities, taxes, etc.

I make more than that, but not by much. Wife is transitioning to a new career and will be without guaranteed income for who knows how long.

I can tell you that's not wrong.

Family of 5
1,800 mortgage
1400 in child care (2 kids, one is in school, if we did after school care add another 400)
200-300 for groceries WEEKLY
Just paid off both our vehicles
Utilities
Student loans
Cell bills
After school activities

shite adds up real damn fast.

ETA: I've spent 20k or more on daycare every year since 2015.

I would agree with this. If you start to add up expenses, $128k is where you start to get to the point where you can go out to eat a few times a month without worry, or you can start to seriously save for retirement, etc.

At 128k, your after-tax income will be around 7000/month.

- 1600/month avg rent/mortgage
- 1200/month daycare if you have a kid
- 200/month car insurance
- 400/month car note
- 400/month groceries
- 300/month utilities
- 75/month streaming services
- 100/month internet
- 150/month cell phone
- 500/month general spending (household supplies, etc)

This will leave you with about $2000/month left over. If you're investing in a 401k, you now have about $5-800 to do whatever you want with.

So yeah, 128k is pretty spot on for where you can start to unclench your buttcheeks.

Car insurance in Louisiana, gas prices, and a note is gonna be more than that, and most people have 2 vehicles.

Yea I have insurance just for me and my teenager and just that is 400 a month. That’s not including the notes or maintenance. Closer to $1500 a month and that’s on the lower end depending on vehicles.

I got by on 1/6th of that relatively easy. The secret is not to get into a shitload of debt and buy a bunch of shite you don't need like a retard.

So you can easily get fast food for under $50-60 if you don’t buy 40% more food than you need.
