Good riddance! Religion has been slowing down the intellectual advancement of humanity for too long.

Nice snapshot of data. What did those same age brackets look like 30 years ago?
30 years ago I would have answered non-affiliated or atheist. Then I actually started asking deeper questions and found out I did not have all the answers. Those questions eventually lead me to the Catholic church.

Parents should teach their kids right and wrong and instill in them a good moral compass. If they do that, religion is outdated and unnecessary.
This isn't happening.
In fact, you'll probably see a spiritual revival with the next couple of generations. May not be Christianity, or even religion but we're past due.

Care to elaborate on that? Sounds a little general and ill-informed.

I'd like to see the same graph from 20 years ago. Honestly it probably looks plenty similar. Like another poster pointed out most become more religious as they age. 18-29 vs 30-49. People get married, have kids, start going to church.

not sure if the world will be a better place without religion or not. on one hand you dont have all the jesus lovers, on the other hand the whole jesus thing is a reminder to not be a dick to people.
the world really doesnt need to become an irl version of the ot. not surprising common decency is disappearing with the declining church numbers.
To be honest, I'm coming to the conclusion that some ideals may be worse without religion. Marxism was certainly birthed out of it. I do think humans need a higher power and certainly cause than oneself, and they will find ways to invent one if they can't find it.

Millennials are also having less kids. IDK a lot of people that were going to church right after college. Once married with kids people tend to get back into church.

I don’t find that to be the case at all. Especially in modern and post modern times.

I'm astounded by some of the comments on this thread.
There is no way that you can justify a world without Christianity being a better place.
I didn't realize there were so many agnostics and atheists on this board......

You need to have a similar snapshot of what those brackets looked like 30 years ago to have a one-for-one comparison.

Access to information is killing Christianity and religion in general. It's much easier to do some research and realize it's bull shite.
You say that, but it is easier to believe an all powerful being created everything than the big bang just up and happened.
There is a lot we do not know and writing off there is no God is a wrong assumption.
More than likely what religion tells us about God is wrong and corrupted by man. With that being said the vastness of the Universe and the complexity of what is life is not something that just happened without a grand plan by some divine being.

I would bet, some of the most violent states and cities would also identify as the most Christian....

A Gallup poll in February found that Mississippi and Utah are the two most religious states, followed by Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina. Religion is also the largest recipient of America's charitable dollars, totaling $105 billion in 2013, or slightly less than a third of all giving in the U.S.

I'm sure preachers always begging for money and spewing politics in church helps

This is true to some extent, but I do think the more monstrous of us will find a way to be dicks to one another regardless. The worst person I know is a Southern Baptist Preacher and he has used God to bully and threaten others when I know things about him that would put most of them to shame. The fact that he has kids and brainwashes other youth is really horrifying.
But this isn't the bigger issue. The bigger issue is young people losing purpose by not believing in a higher power and then going on to create radical ideologies of their own to fill that gap. The youth are now lost and they must be lifted up back onto their feet and find a purpose greater than themselves. Most are willing to do it, but then are brainwashed by others with more nefarious motives.

Could this have anything to do with the collapse of common sense morality in America? Where people walk into schools and kill dozens of children? Or where aborted babies are sold like car parts? Or where pedophilia and bestiality are on deck for the "acceptable lifestyle" designation?
Nah. Probably unrelated.

Now, this is not me saying religion is bad, or religious people arent educated. Far from it. The smartest person I know, my cousin who graduated from Cal Tech, is the most devout christian I know.
I am saying this about people that "need religion" in order for them to act accordingly
