We're sorry your package is late
We don’t have a new delivery date, but we recommend waiting as it’ll usually arrive within a few days.
Please come back Thursday if you still don't have it and we'll help you out.
Was expected Friday, December 22

This is almost always due to a third party vendor who fricked up on whether something was in stock or not.

If you want to avoid these issues, pay attention to the vendor. Items sold by Amazon are the way to go. Something fulfilled by Amazon can be a crap shoot as you've got the vendor and third party shipper that can drop the ball.

To add to the pro-Amazon sentiment, I ordered an Amazon Dot on Wednesday evening that said it wouldn't be in stock until mid next week. Got an email this morning that it's actually going to be delivered today.

Pleasant surprise.

Unless they set up their own distribution company, they're only as good as the Big Three carriers.

Don't be surprised to see them move in that direction.

Treasure truck is something Amazon offers just for fun. They will have one item on the truck for the day. Usually marked off a great deal.

LINK
Treasure truck is in 25 cities...

You get a text alert what is on the truck that day. You can purchase the item and find out what stops the truck will be at. You pick a stop and go at the alloted time and pick up your purchase. Usually they do fun things where truck is parked at (giving away food, etc.).

The items on the truck sells out quick though. We have tried purchasing stuff and it will sell out within minutes of the text alert. My husband did get a Phillips Hue starter pack for $99 (normally sells for $150-200 depending on where you look) off the truck last week.

So contact them. They are quick to fix any issue you have.

I did. Did you think "hold their feet to the fire" meant "complain on TigerDroppings"?

The point was that everyone needs to so Amazon knows that people are upset that they're not keeping up with their end of the deal. If nobody complains to them and just says "oh well it's Christmas" and shrugs, Amazon will not fix the problem because, as far as they'd know, the customer would be happy. Complain and get them to make good on their promises on late (don't wait until it's definitely lost) packages and they'll realize they need to do something. Their shitty carrier cost them about 200 bucks on my order. Enough of those and they'll either fix it or realize they can't sell that promise anymore.

It was USPS, BTW. Three times since Thanksgiving. UPS might be late, but at least they update the tracking so you can see they're moving your stuff. The USPS just flat loses stuff for days and never updates anything or they'll update with lies. Maybe you'll get your package, maybe you won't. I wish Amazon had never gotten involved with that clownshow of an organization.

It's your local USPS carrier. I had a package, a few weeks ago, said it was on the truck and out for delivery. They stopped two doors down around 7:15pm. Never stopped at my house. Got a message saying they tried to deliver it at 7:25 pm but was unable to because no safe place to deliver it. My security camera showed them driving by my house at 7:16pm. They never tried to deliver it. They just wanted to get back to the office so they could get off work and go home. Couldn't take two minutes to deliver my package. Got it early the next day. Although it made it sound like I had to tell them to redeliver it. Long story short, it depends on your carrier to get you package to you on time. Not Amazon's fault this guy had to bust arse back to the office instead of taking time to deliver my package.

I paid $40 in extra shipping to get some stuff here by today. Got an update that it wouldn't come until Tuesday.
Sucks but my fault I waited so long.

If you are complaining then you should start earlier.

When you pay a upcharge for shipping and it doesn't get there is when you need to call Customer Service.

It's your fault they took $40 from you and promised to provide something in return and then absolutely failed to provide it? What do you think would happen to your business if you charged someone a $40 expediting fee to fix someone's washer by this afternoon before their family showed up for Christmas and then rolled in to fix it on Wednesday?

I'd be raising holy hell. I don't care if it's Christmas. Their problems with their logistics aren't my problem. If they can't do it, they should be saying they can't and not offering that service.

When you make me pay for something and then don't deliver (literally), there's something wrong.

Amazon Prime has been excellent, but I'm out in the country and all of our community is on fairly large lots, min farms, etc. No bottlenecks to get to our zipcode.

Ordering from other suppliers is five to seven business days, and their estimates are pretty reliable, as well.

My issue with Amazon the last 6 months or so is that I will order an item that says that it can be delivered by, say, Tuesday and then when i get the shipping email it says Wednesday or Thursday.
