I have been out of town mon-fri last 3 weeks so relied on them. Know it was not ideal.

Got this today:

Now expected December 24 - December 27
We're sorry your package is late
We don’t have a new delivery date, but we recommend waiting as it’ll usually arrive within a few days.
Please come back Thursday if you still don't have it and we'll help you out.
Was expected Friday, December 22

Honestly, for the first time in 5-6 years, most of my shopping has been local. Prices, availability and shipping concerns have loomed large for me too.

Same. Amazon never sends me anything on time so I didn't chance it this year.

We order a package to be sent to my niece in Canada. They sent it there plus sent a duplicate to us. Managed to get a second package to Canada and one to Australia without any problems..

Probably ordered 20 things from Amazon in the past two weeks. All came in on time, with a few taking 3-4 days to arrive. One package was damaged, which Amazon replaced with next day shipping. No complaints here.

The postal service has been playing games with their packages.

I have personally brought packages from an FC to FedEx to make it out on time. Trust me when I tell you the failure isnt on Amazon. There is an almost psychotic devotion to keeping the customer happy.

The failure is on part of UPS and FedEx who are not adequately scaling their business to match our 30% YoY growth.

What you see is we get the boxes to them on before their deadline to ship 2 day. Then from there it either gets lost or delayed. An SLA miss on their part. Now you could say that Amazon should find another carrier or stop promising 2 day.

1) AMZL exists for this reason. You will see more packages coming from interal carriers as UPS fails more and more.
2) there,is a service level agreement in place on their part. So if they promise 2 day delivery we should take them on their word with our systems. otherwise why contract?

I'm just amazed that the carriers don't have someone smart that they can lean on to get some estimates on number of packages to be shipped and then plan accordingly

Yeah in Dallas Amazon delivers everything themselves, at least to my area. They have the white vans and deliver out of the 2 warehouses by DFW airport.

Amazon customer service is not as stellar as some of you claim. Had prime package arrive over 2 weeks late. Wife called customer service and they offered nothing for this extreme delay. I called and after complaining they only offered to extend our Prime for a month at no charge. Will not be renewing. Wal-Mart pickup seems the route to go.

You'll see more soon. AMZL is buying up space in airports to start running its own flights as it becomes a full fledged logistics company.

Similar things happened in the UK with their postal service. They were shipping 90% Amazon volumes, then they got overloaded over christmas and people got packages late. As a result, Amazon created AMZL so they wouldn't get burned again and now the UK postal service gets just enough volume to keep a relationship alive.

When theres a problem between Amazon and the customer Amazon will go so far as to create a new multibillion dollar company to fix the problem

Amazon customer service reps are empowered to make decisions themselves so YMMV. You could escalate to another rep.

Also. It is a business still. Can't give away everything for free. Options are way more, limited when it isnt actually an Amazon product

I ordered a lot this year on Amazon and had only issue where it was not delivered on time and that was the last gift I got for my son. Supposed to arrive this past Thursday but was not delivered. It was only package that came via USPS. They delivered on Friday. All other packages came thru either Fed Ex or UPS and had no issue. I told Amazon person I spoke with ( also on 3 way call with USPS dispatch ) that if my order was not delivered by Friday I was canceling order. Also suggested they drop USPS as a carrier of their deliveries.

It absofrickinglutely is on Amazon. They sold you Prime on two day shipping, they picked the carrier, and their carrier failed. If they know that it's not going to get there on time, they need to let their customers know up front so there's the option to pick the slower shipping and take Amazon's usual discount they give you when you willingly select regular shipping.

Hold their fricking feet to the fire. Their customer service is fantastic, but that doesn't mean they can promise and not deliver and they need to know we're pissed

Call Amazon and they'll make it right. They always do.
