Amazing the difference an attic vent makes...

Attic vent motor went out, had to order one, took a week to come in..
Have a single 4.0-ton unit in a 2-story house, thermostat is in upstairs hallway. Usually keep it set at 73, last week during peak temps, upstairs temp was running 75 with a/c continuous running during the day. Replaced the motor last night... Temps back to normal, 73 with the unit cycling on and off.
Other than spray foam, any better ideas keeping your attic cooler?

Installed a attic fan several years ago.
From everything I read it may make things worse.
Did it anyway because I am hard headed.

And costs? What kind of budget are we looking at to spray foam an attic for 3000 sq ft (avg) and install exhaust fans???

Spray foam is amazing. My attic went from the surface of the sun to a couple degrees warmer than my house.

We have friends who installed a whole house attic fan in their home and it was shocking the difference it made.

yep, this is in Colorado so as soon as the sun drops behind the mountains it cools off a lot; but the house is still hot so it draws in outside air and expels the hot air trapped in the living and attic space

Parents had one in the house I grew up in, first cool fall day, my dad would open the windows and turn on the attic fan, it was awesome…

Got cha. That wouldn't work here in Louisiana. 109 degree heat indexes and 85F at 5 am. Pre central air years they were good.

I agree. When I was a kid thats all we had. I vividly recall going to sleep hearing frogs and crickets through the partially open window as I went to sleep. Also remember sticking to the sheets due to the humidity. But I wasn't miserable or anything, it's all I knew at that point.

My big issue has been condensation on my ducts.
It is well past time for them to be replaced. Ceiling is dripping with condensation at times.
