it’s a big musical with a big following based on a big musical with a big following.
I get why it’s big.
Not my cup of tea, but i’m not shocked it’s popular.

The Broadway show is actually very good. Saw it in 2007 when it was new. Gives a different perspective on the original story. I’m not as much of a fan of the film adaptations of the Broadway shows, probably mostly since I saw the show.

Meh, its white women frothing at the mouth to do precisely what all the other white women are doing in order to feel accepted.

I would probably enjoy musicals if it weren't for the gay, over-the-top theater kids that I'd be watching it with. I liked Jesus Christ Superstar
Meh....we have season tickets for the Broadway Theater League and the crowd is mostly middle age and old people. This season opened last weekend with "Tina", the story and music or Tina Turner. It was a really good show and the encore was a few songs with a full backup band. The lead had a great voice. Last year "Ain't too Proud: The Temptations Story" was also really good.
"Beetlejuice" was top notch and had a fun crowd. "JCSS" was pretty good, but overall not one of my favorites. "Book of Mormon" got some of the olds all in a tizzy. We saw "Aladdin" which didn't quite meet the hype. "Come From Away" was great and told a good, real story. "The Play that Goes Wrong", which was a full on comedy, left my cheeks sore the next day from laughing.
Next up this season is Clue.

The play was very good and entertaining.
Trying to turn it into some super blockbuster with all of this hype is annoying.

I mean, the only reason I knew it was out was because I saw it did better than Gladiator II, which I was excited to go see and was going to go to the movies for the first time in years to go see it, but then when I saw how they had dudes standing on Rhinos fighting and arenas that were like aquariums and people fighting sharks and shite.. I was disappointed and at first I was like "some movie Wicked did better than Gladiator" and then I was informed that its because Wicked is very popular.
But the thing with Gladiator. I read Denzel Washington pretty much carried the little bit that didn't make it a complete shite show, which I don't get. You could have a very good story line, you have Denzel Washington. Why go overboard with all the CGI bullshite?

A lady from BR played the lead in Wicked on Broadway some time back.
I might be wrong about that. Maybe she was in a bunch of other stuff and was just really into Wicked.
2 other points:
- there is a craze because of marketing
- if you hate theater kids, avoid this shite like the plague

Nope. The Broadway show was good. The movie won't do it justice... and it's just goofy weird the "craze" that's happening over it. Singing along in the theater? Dressing up? Stupid. Just stupid. I don't think they were going for a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show type of experience, were they?

I forget, does the musical addresses that Oz is Elphaba's father?
