The sound of my kids in the house constantly.

They are 28, 25 and 17 now and the 2 older ones have been gone for years. My youngest is always either at school, work or his girlfriend's.

Empty nest is real!

This is a fear of mine. I think it will hurt my wife and I.

Halloween apparently. The last 2 years there have been 0 kids walking around my neighborhood in costumes. Maybe community is the bigger thing that ended. Everyone just keeps to themselves now. I used to walk into my neighbor's house as a kid on Saturday morning to see what was for breakfast.

Driving in California.
Back in the 80s-90s you could drive from one end of the county to the other in less than an hour.

The kid down the street with a divorced mom and house full of sisters
(no pics) comes and eats breakfast with me and my son almost every weekend and talks sports with us

I miss watching a sporting event on the couch on Sunday afternoons with a cold beverage and a loaded bowl on the coffee table while falling in and out of sleep next to my dog.

I tended bar in college. I miss that atmosphere. Minimal responsibility, maximum fun.

Probably would have sent me to an early grave had it not ended, but still, that was a great time.

'll give an off the wall one, the peak of FPS video games was prolly 2002-2013 or so.......they've just gotten worse and worse ever since.

Truthfully so have sports games though they have fallen off to a lesser degree IMHO.

Truly going through a peak I had no idea we were in. I'd have never believed it if you'd have tried to tell me at the time

I first got into firearms around ~2011, and later rifles ~2016. I had no idea I was enjoying a golden age during that time of access and affordability. I even remember thinking .223/5.56 should be cheaper than the ~$0.27/round I was paying at the time, but around 2020/2021 ammo prices doubled over night and any hope of them ever returning seems to have faded away long ago.

Some other areas have gotten better in the meantime, we are dismantling ATF rules multiple times a year now it seems, braced "pistols" are here to stay, and the ruling on bump stocks are likely going to protect FRTs and similar devices as well. Tax stamps are ripping through the system and
getting approved in 2-3 days instead of 9 months. Then there is the 3d2a community and the leaps and bounds it has grown by, they are even driving some of the more exciting innovations like super safeties, and providing us with designs we would have never had access to before, all for free. In some ways its a pretty fair trade, I guess.

Playing pool at a pretty high level. At one time I had 2 good cues, one, a Meucci I won in a game and the other a Joss I bought.

I also possessed 2 good eyes that could see fine cuts and calculate bank shots with accuracy. Yeah, that was all good until my mid-40's when the eyes started getting wonky.

I've been wearing bifocals for over 20 years now, have an astigmatism in my left eye and trying to line up shots looking through bifocal glasses is more than challenging, so I no longer play. It got so frustrating missing shots I once thought little of as far as difficulty that it has taken the fun out of the game.

I'm halfway to losing my love for breweries. What was once fun and exciting to visit new ones and see the interesting beers has turned into kind of a slog, just wishing for how I felt the first 8 years of it.

Related, work happy hrs. That was a great way to let off steam as a group. Covid killed that routine at my work place and it never came back.

Covid turned happy hours into less frequent, but way more alcohol abusive.

Spending time with my family. It seems like my siblings are busy with their own lives and families, parents got nothing going on.
I still love CFB but the NFL sucks now.
Going to the gym. Used to love it but the chase for a nice physique is just something I’ve kinda lost interest in

Yes! I don’t think even CMT plays videos anymore.

I’ll add the History channel. All they play now is reality tv .

Also from the Birmingham, Al area…

I miss city stages, century plaza, Eastwood mall, real games at legion field.

Same, I had a group of friends I would go with and before the show we'd go to a bar have a couple of drinks then go watch the movie.

Sometimes grab a couple more afterwards and talk about what we saw.

It was the best of times then life happens. 2 dudes moved out of state, me and another had kids, and the last one got married and we occasionally catch a film together but its not the same.

I'd give anything to go back to those days.

Agreed. From Randolph Scott to Joel McRea to Audie Murphy to Wayne and Eastwwod.

There's satisfaction seeing justice served on lawbreaking assholes that's no longer present in our society.
