De-ice is on the ground. Anti-ice is inflight.

Multi or single engine doesn’t make yeh difference. It is how the plane is equipped. The PC-12 is a single engine and has anti-ice. So does the TBM and SR-22. All are single engine that can fly into known icing

True, unless you are talking about de-icing boots which can add to the confusion of the terms.

How does anti-ice work in the air but they can’t use it on the ground?

Some planes have like a rubber boot on the edge of the wing and it inflates and breaks up ice.

While this is true, not many 91 or 135 carriers are going to choose JFK for a fueling stop. That’s some of the most congested airspace in the world, and fuel prices at the FBO are astronomical as a deterrent.

I was just pointing this out because it’s been said a few times now that Bangor has the longest runway on the east coast. It does not.

I would think there is a danger at high altitudes where it’s very cold.

At typical cruise altitudes (35000 and above) where the temperatures average -50c and colder we don’t worry about ice. -40C is a common temperature used for guidance of use of engine anti-ice at cruise.

Some of the smaller planes have what is known as a TKS system which essentially weeps anti ice fluid from small holes on the leading edge of wings and props. Its essentially antifreeze that needs to be spread by the wind in flight. You only have X amount of minutes of use so its not something that stays on every flight unless its known icing conditions.

Im not familiar with what small jets and commercial liners use other than boots.

I agree with you on the premise of PI work. Also, PI lawyers tend to be big donors to liberals. Not because they care about liberal causes, but because liberals will change the laws to be more lawsuit friendly.

But I don’t think it’s appropriate for anyone to celebrate this sort of event.

You could probably get it cut out for like 10 K cash.

Most jet aircraft use bleed air from the engines which is ducted to and blows hot air across the critical surfaces.

do some airliners not use heated air from the engines to heat the leading edges?

I know we were taxiing at ATL headed to New York (Dec 26th) and had to return to gate because the anti ice system didn't work. trying to clear it up, they just revved that engine up to high power but to no avail. the pilot said because of where we were going, we had to cancel.

Vasa has an ATC update vid

Interesting that two crews reported the de-ice application didn't really work and Allegiant was going to de-ice again before the business jet crashed.

Going to be interesting for the de-ice crew. And the airport was close to minimums for the Allegiant plane so maybe a rush to get out for the business jet?

I'm guessing she told her daughter (who I assume is younger in age) that it was a business trip, instead of telling her it was a fun girls getaway trip.

Sad all the way around. There are now several children that no longer have their mommy.

It was a "business trip" because "girls trip to Paris" isn't a legitimate business expense.

It's not rocket science.

I wasn’t celebrating it at all. Definitely wasn’t when it turned out to be one of the women from the firm and her friends. That’s a terrible tragedy and very sad. I did say that if it was a bunch of the lawyers that I wouldn’t be too upset. That was after all the fawning posts on here. They’re legalized thieves. And it’s because like you said, their Democrat friends make the laws that allow it.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the response.
