To be fair, Monroe, Burr, and Hamilton were much more influential AFTER we gained independence and in the forming of the government following than in the path to independence. There was a pretty strong amount of flying by the seat of their pants in that time

But this meme, which has been spreading across the internet for years, is kind of stupid in its own right. It acts like the people who were important in 1800 or even in 1787 were necessarily very important in 1776.
