After this passes, every nation needs to massively expand healthcare provision capacity

I don’t care if it is “inefficient” and expensive to have tons of empty rooms and unused critical care machines lying around on any given average day. Because, as we see right now, it’s always possible for a black swan to swoop in and shite all over “average”
That “inefficiency” sure as hell beats what countries are doing now to prevent hospitals from overflowing.
If Italy had 5-6x as big a health infrastructure as it does now, people wouldn’t be imprisoned in their own homes for weeks.

Infrastructure that sits around being unused will mostly turn into rubbish over time.

Inefficiently spent infrastructure is a decent chunk of Italy's absurd debt-to-GDP ratio. Only Greece has a higher ratio in Europe.

Meanwhile, when this is over and we have all this unused healthcare sitting around, can we get some help for the mental pts, the vets, etc. or fix some roads, like things we need everyday vs every I don’t know, every 20 years or so!

And now who pays for that exactly?
The people’s taxes? The people in this country almost well full retard over a program that offered just “more affordable” healthcare... let alone Canadian style “full coverage”.
It’s all great to play the “what if” game, but when the meat hits the metal, no one wants to pony up and since politicians are beholden to their constituents, none of them would even attempt to float it through legislation... at least that’s the case here at home, I can’t imagine another democratic government like Italy would be any different.
Time to stop trying to stop nature from taking its course and accept that not everyone should be here alive.

As soon as you expand all kinds of equipment, a black swan event will come along that requires other stuff. We have plenty of stuff. What we need are market incentives for companies that will fill our emergency needs. Pay a million dollars per ventilator delivered within the next five weeks, and you’ll have more that you can use. That’s way cheaper than your stupid Bernie solution, and it works for everything.

I work in design and construction management for a large hospital. If there was money available we would have been adding every hospital bed possible long before this Covid-19 was a thing. It wouldn't be wasted.
