If you really want to make an ACE employee happy, ask to get a piece of glass cut.
I used to cut glass for a storm window manufacturer. I never was super comfortable doing it, especially after having watched The Omen.

We used to shop one in college that had guns, tailgate supplies and all of the regular hardware store staples.

We have some independent stores that are part of Orgill’s (big hardware distributor in Collierville TN) network and they’re similar to ace, good outdoor cooking sections, solid selection of hardware items and employees that aren’t complete idiots etc.

Wish we had a good store that combined the outdoor/hunting/guns/hardware store concept all into one. I’d be there all the time.

If I need something specific, like a certain bolt size and thread, I’ll drive 5 miles out of my way past Lowe’s and Home Depot to go there. Last week I took the draw bar from my tractor and an adapter in there to find the right bolt and a guy was helping me within 15 seconds of walking inside.

Call me crazy but I love the smell of an old hardware store. Reminds me of my Pawpaw's garage.

It’s still mostly Chinese crap but as far as current corporate hardware stores go they aren’t so bad.

Serious question. Is there anywhere that isn't "Chinese crap" that is reasonable priced?

I wonder how Chinese tariffs will affect Mardi Gras this year for imported beads and trinkets. It may increase sales of boxes of Mac and Cheese, ramen, and Moon Pies.

Just stay away from ole rap cassettes or CDs and dog food, that always seems to pop up as Naughty items by the NAALCP.

My ace has a big gun section. The outdoor part isn’t much but decent knife and ammo supply.

Go to the Ace website and let them know which store you went to that was such a good experience. It will probably help out the manager/employee who was there.
As old people sounding as this is, I actually do this from time to time to give a shout out to an employee who went above and beyond

How about at any price? I’m always looking to buy American and there’s alarmingly few American made options for anything.

Is a co-op (think IGA or Associated Grocers), and almost all the stores are family-owned. So the credit goes to the individual/local entrepreneurs, who are a part of the community.

On the other side of my town was a struggling Food Giant. A decent size grocery of the 70s. Ten years ago, the owner devoted half of the space to Ace. It is all one open store. It is unique and I like it, but two local hardwares, two Lowe’s, Home Depot and a Menards are closer to me.

The grocery side still has a deli with really good fried chicken though.

We have several in my area. I go there as they carry Stihl products and accessories but I also pick up other items from time to time. I always like the experience, but do find prices higher. I also shop HD and Lowe’s as needed. For me, Ace is part of the options I use to get stuff done.

Yes!! Was just telling my family about my Ace experience at Pontchartrain Ace in Slidell yesterday. Everything you could wish for in a shopping experience.
I’m not a Slidell resident, located the store via maps while passing thru and was glad I did. Wish my hometown had one!!

And the one I go to must have a “perfect arse” hiring policy.

Agree.

I'll pay a little more to avoid HD and Lowe's.

In and out quickly and pleasant interactions with employees.

I agree. Unless buying a lot of building material I'll do my hardware shopping there. Even if it cost more. I like that i always have some one to help if i need it.
They are really great when looking for random machine screws or nuts. Tools are usually expensive and limited in choice but I'm honestly a Harbor Freight guy for tools now anyway. (Trying to build an all Icon tool chest)

I've seen some bad cuts over the years working in the glazing industry. Just a month ago I had to put a tourniquet on a guy to keep him from bleeding out. Not my first time, either.
