I agree. Our local Ace is over 72,000 square feet and has everything! Meat like Wagyu, alligator, kangaroo..even has a wine and beer bar. My granddaughters can’t wait to go there when they come visit. Cool place.

I live right by one and go in there all the time. It's a little more expensive than Home Depot or Lowes but it's worth it to me most of the time.

Doesn't hurt that mine has a popcorn machine with pretty fresh bags of popcorn at the front door and the ability to fill propane tanks...can fill a propane tank higher than what you get at Blue Rhino cages for more than half the price.

Mine too has a popcorn machine. They even have a rental section for those bigger projects.

Only negative is the prices. They can run as much as 25% higher than Lowe’s or Home Depot, but that will entail a trip to Houma and two hours on the road.

I have 4 locally owned hardware stores in my area of Larose/Cut Off in addition the Ace.

One is Dufrene’s Building Materials which is growing into a chain within itself and just opened a location in Pensacola.

The Pierre Part store just bought Allied Building Materials in Larose and Lockport and aptly called it the Larose Store and Lockport Store. They also have a location in Thibodaux.

Then I have Melanco Sisters which operates as a Do It Best franchise.

How did you find employees there?

Still feels like the 90’s in there. Which is awesome.

And the 80s and the 70s and…well, you get the point. It’s a company that has managed to remain grounded in its roots and hasn’t tried to become something else.

I used to love that Ace. It used to be another name though huh?

I gladly pay 5-10% more at my ACE because there’s a couple guys in there that wear suspenders and limp real bad but can read my fricking mind when I’m trying to find the shite I need. My local Ace has their own guy that services Stihl and Echo. I mean Christ.

No kidding. I might never leave willingly if I ever stepped foot in a place like that. Plus they have grills, charcoal, and gas right there so you could just cook that meat up to your liking.

Mostly agree, but every once in a while the employees basically try and shop for you, which can be annoying. I know it’s a company policy to be helpful, but sometimes I just want to wander around and don’t need a personal shopper.

This is how my Ace is, they are super aggressive when you walk in. They follow you around in the background, kind of uncomfortable.

I have purchased a couple of grills there and they always put them together correctly and load them up.

I always have liked the experience at the Ace stores. Two or three in this area have closed down in the last few years. One is still going strong and is about to open a place that is at least triple the size of their current place and will have a lot of grills and stuff on display.

I agree with the OP. Sometimes I feel like they have too many employees but they are all helpful and pleasant. Last spring I went into my local Ace. I was in the zone reading weed killer labels to see if they killed dollar weed. I don’t think the cashier knew I was in there, or any other customers for that matter, because she said at a regular voice level to one of the working men, “Don’t come over here. I just farted and it’s a bad one.”
She’s nice but a little rednecky. I waited about 10 minutes before going to the register. It was awkward-for me and her.

Needed a key made and the dumb mofo at Lowe's said he couldn't make it because it was an ACE key. Guy at ACE said that was bs and the keys at ACE were half the price.

Worked at one all throughout college. Everyone should have to work at a hardware store. I learned so many things that I am still able to take advantage of.

And that tool discount is pretty nice to.

I love the one in Lakeview. I walk in, tell them what I want, and they walk to the area of the store it’s in and grab it and bring it to the register.

I’m going tomorrow to get a mop bucket and a big sponge. I’ll be in and out in 3 mins.

Home Depot and Lowe’s are loathed in this home, unless I need sod or plant shite.

Ace doesn’t sell that.
