About 4 in 10 American adults are obese, and nearly 1 in 10 is severely so, government researchers said Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention findings come from a 2017-18 health survey that measures height and weight. More than 5,000 U.S. adults took part.

The survey found that the obesity rate was 42% — higher than the 40% found in a similar 2015-16 study. The severe obesity rate was more than 9% in the new survey, up from the 8% figure in the previous one.

Those increases aren’t considered statistically significant: The survey numbers are small enough that there’s a mathematical chance the rates didn’t truly rise.

A half-century ago, about 1 in 100 American adults were severely obese. Now it’s 10 times more common.

The obesity rate has risen about 40% in the last two decades.

Are you overweight?

LOL

they still use the BMI from the fricking 1950's.

Gotta continue classifying people as abuse, so we can continue pumping pills into their gullets.

Also, using this shite chart, nearly 80% of Sports athletes are obese. Congrats, in shape, muscle bound guy, ur obese.

This is where people come in here and say BMI is outdated because the Rock is considered obese, even though the Rock has been cycling for 30 years

you really think it’s ineffective in measuring large groups of people?

Cruising to work today and saw a fat arse with her arm hanging out of the window smoking a cigarette and guess what there was a handicap license plate on the minivan. Merica

It really is amazing what type of impact humans could make if they at least read the ingredients label on the things they buy. Diet/Light/Less *Blank* products are mostly a ruse anyways. Sure it has a lesser amount of sugar than the original, but it's still poison and you build a dependency.

For example, anybody drinking Diet Coke is making such an insignificant difference in their bodies than if they just drank regular Coke. Literally fooling themselves. People need to drink water, avoid meat as much as possible, and really focus on the amount of sugar they intake. Cutting out carbs is not the answer.

It's a valid way to measure a large group.

Also, just open your eyes and look around.

You may not think Americans are generally fat, but if you spent a week in Europe then you'd know for sure Americans are fat
