Abandoned pet left behind

Wife (no pics) and I walk every morning in a park nearby. Last Monday, a poor dog, wet, shivering, scared and hungry comes over to us begging for help. No one else is in the park and it probably spent the night there. No tags or chip on him.
We took it home cleaned it up and fed it. Beautiful, well mannered dog (Basset Hound) that had all the signs of being well cared for.
We put signs in the park, ads in the paper, contacted local vets, animal control and rescues. Nobody knows this dog and to make it worse, it looks amazingly like a dog we once had and wife is getting attached.
If this dog is a throwaway, I hope the owners suffer painful diarrhea for the next 6 weeks.

It’s too late. Same scenario happened to me a few years ago.
He’s 4 now and one of the best dogs I’ve ever had.

People are scum. I fostered a puppy for a short time that someone I know found starving on the side of the highway. I helped get him a new home and he is now healthy and happy.
Just saw him out with his new owner last weekend.

We adopted a dog from a rescue in September. Whoever owned her before took her to the levee, kicked her out of the truck and drove off. Some bystanders found saw her. And while they were figuring out what was going on, the truck came back and the driver asked if he could have her collar back. Then he drove off.
She is the most well behaved dog I have ever owned. She is loyal almost to a fault. I don't know why those losers got rid of her. And I feel bad for what she went through. But I am so happy that she is now part of our family.

We are up in age and a dog like this needs a lot of attention. Our last dog lasted 16 years and it broke our hearts when we put it down. Don't want through that again. This dog would be great with kids, not old people

it is yours - and good on you both for doing something good for that dog.
a couple a could apartments down found a full blood yellow lab abandoned at a gas station in GA on their way home, and they brought it with them - poor thing is malnourished and the vet told them it had been abused before being dumped off.
world needs more good people like you guys.

The best dog I ever had was a stray puppy that we hid in the barn for a week and fed after dad told us no. Buddy stayed home with mom and dad after we all had moved out for college, etc. Dad cried when he died and still gets emotional when we talk about Buddy.

Man, this story makes me mad, but glad you and your wife took the dog in, OP. We have a basset. Well, we had two, but we had to put the other down a little over a year ago due to declining health. We have a soft spot for them.
I'd be tempted to take the dog, if I was in reasonable driving distance, but I'm guessing I'm not. I'm outside Austin. What city/town you live in?

Basset hounds are great dogs and this one appears to be no exception. I'm guessing he is 7-8 years old. If we were closer, I would see if we could meet up. I think my wife might fight me now if I try to give it away.

Assholes for abandoning a dog like that. We adopted a dog that was abused and abandoned, and i feel bad leaving him at the groomer because he freaks out.
