1992 I vowed NEVER watch a Nicole Kidman movie ever again...and I haven't.

Big congrats on the sobriety, that's a tough demon.
I was drinking was too much, the job contributed because we had an open bar tab at a nice restaurant, we all abused it. When my little girl started school and my son was born about the same time, I started AA. I knew how many people, friends and family, whose lives were ruined due to alcohol and/or drugs. I told myself examples are much better than lectures, I didn't want my kids to inherit my problems. I said I would not drink until they finished college.
When my son graduated from LSU I didn't go back to the bottle. But over the years I have an occasional craft beer or glass of wine, but alcohol has no big draw for me anymore. At my age all the ones who abused alcohol are all dead by now.

Was there something that made August 10, 2005, the day that you quit?
Nearly killed a woman and her young daughter when I plowed through a red light hitting their SUV. All because I was an alcoholic.

I promised myself that the money I would have spent on cigarettes the first year after I quit, I would spend on my dream trip to Italy.
I did it, and that has turned into several more trips abroad, and several lifelong friends across the country and across the world.

Smoked cigarettes for over 20 years. Put them down almost 6 years ago. If I can quit, anyone can.

10 years without a drink.
Get back in shape.
Make Jesus my first priority.

17 years of sobriety for me
Don't mean to one up you there pal, but I'm at 21 years sober. I actually quit drinking 8 months after I turned 21. I don't miss it one bit.

You don’t apply numb nuts. You’re chosen

Not to settle and marry just to marry. I had to make a tough choice a year and a half ago, but it ended up being the right choice. I am living with the love of my life and will put a rock on the finger sooner than later.

Promised myself that if I ever had enough money I'd eat as much as I can.
This explains a lot

Promised myself I’d quit smoking cigarettes if the Saints won the Super Bowl. Haven’t had one since.

Congrats on 17 years !! That takes strong character and a lot of self discipline to win that battle. Keep beating it !!

I promised one day I’d quit smoking. And I’ve keep that promise for decades. One day, I’m gonna quit smoking.
