Two key ones come to mind:

1. When I was in my early 20's, I had skipped finishing college as I was selling computers and making mad money. The only problem was that every month I started back at 0. It was a struggle. I had met some programmers during this period and learned about what they did: i wanted that good-paying tech job that was a steady 9-5 without worrying about commissions. So I went back to LSU and completed my degree.

2. When I was 40 in an unhappy marriage (wife changed completely over the years) and had a mini-stroke, I vowed to change my life. Almost dying does this to you. Now I'm remarried to an awesome, positive person who is my best friend. Together she and I have accomplished many things and live out in the country w lots of space, something my prior wife would never consider. People that get to know us sometimes ask, you guys never fight do you? We're like, no, never. Life is too short to be unhappy.

Congratulations on 17 years. That makes mine stupid and pale in comparison. After college I swore I’d never eat ramen noodles again and I would never walk a golf course where carts were available.

Again great job to all on their sobriety journey!

When I turned 45 I made a promise to myself to start exercising regularly. I’ve kept that promise for nearly two years and it’s had such a beneficial impact on my life.

I always wanted to be a teacher. Even after I didn’t go to school for it and was told to get a job that pays more, I eventually went back and got certified. Now 9 years in, looking to get out heh.

I promised one day I’d quit smoking. And I’ve keep that promise for decades. One day, I’m gonna quit smoking.

Promise yourself that next time you get sick, you will quit. Because how stupid is it to suck smoke into your lungs when you feel like crap?

Well, I finally got sick 19 years ago. Put them down and that was the end.

Had zero integrity growing up. After I got it out my system in my mid 20's, (37 now), I pride myself on my work ethic and dependability.

This is mainly pertinent to my career.
