re: A good grocery store is important -- Didn't realize it until we moved back home

We would only move back for family. Both of our parents are aging, and the draw to be near them and help them is strong.
My parents have some land that they would be willing to give us, so the opportunity for living rural, near family, and be able to build a home is the real draw. We wouldn’t spend much time in Alex, except for groceries and whatnot, which as stated, kinda sucks.

I lived in solid blue Denver, and I saw more hate and actual racism amongst those individuals than I ever saw in the south. It shocked me how hard blue individuals think so little of black and Hispanic individuals. I legit got into arguments on a regular basis because idiot white people assumed they couldn't obtain IDs or phones. Just insane.

I have three Brookeshires I drive past to get to the closest HEB. They're ridiculously expensive for such poor quality meat and produce.
HEB has a significantly higher quality of both, plus their pre-made items are fresh and really good. It's so much easier to pop a couple of those in the oven when it's been a long day with work, taking care of a ranch, and having a toddler, and it's not some heavily processed frozen junk.

Once you know HEB, there is no other.

Odysseus32, after also moving back to CenLa during covid, from Phoenix, we are still feeling your identical pain.
We have to occasionally drive to B.R. to shop Trader Joe's. An occasional trip to Shrevepit sees us at Whole Foods.
We used to frequent WinCo, too.

this is funny because me and the wife have been tossing around the idea of moving back home (CenLa)
Don't!

All the good things are overwhelmed by the nastiness

Try Mac's in Pineville on 28 east. And there is a Super 1 by it too.

The Super 1 in Lafayette are well stocked. Rouse's is the best for Louisiana products. Aldi is the best for price on staples.

Lol.
Seriously?

Shouldn't have moved to Louisiana. We only care about what the lobbyists tell us to care about.

You live in Cenla.
It is what it is!
This is not an area that has upscale grocery stores.

Regular Publix shopper checking in.
I’ve tried to get away from it to save some cash. I used to think it was comparable to a local place here called Ingles. After shopping by side it’s not even close.
Between the clean shopping experience without meth heads everywhere, the quality of meat and produce.
I’ve just resigned to happily spend 10-20 more per trip and call it a day.
Publix really does making shopping a pleasure. If you ever get one be glad.

People bitch about BR, but there 5-6 solid grocery options within 1-3 miles of my house. Whole Foods, 2 Rouses, etc. And that’s not even counting a smaller, but great store like Reeves Market or Asian Supermarket a little further away.

When I moved to SWFL I was blown away by the customer service at Publix. Happy workers, friendly, willing to not only help, but greet you, with a smile. I was so used to LA customer "service". Night versus day.

Man why did you move away from here. This place is paradise.
And Winco is the shite.

I have been 100% completely disappointed in the steak selection at the new Rouses in Lafayette.
I’m in Mobile. It’s inconsistent for sure,
but usually better to catch stuff on sale W-F

I despise Kroger. We have 2 Krogers, a WalMart Market, and a super size one, a Tom Thumb (Albertson’s), Sprouts, Aldi, and Market Street. Plus they are building a brand new HEB to open either in late 2024 or early 2025. In this desolate land of Kroger, I do miss Publix.

We went down to Lake Charles and shopped at Rouses

Maybe I'm easy to please, but I have no issues shopping at any of the grocery stores you listed.
