Yep, realized the same thing when I left Florida. Baton Rouge is NOT the land of Publix. Wal Mart Neighborhood Market blows

Not sure which area you are in but BR has tons of grocery store options besides Walmart.

I find Publix to be overpriced. I do wish we had a HEB though.

grocery shopping is all about value of time vs money.

This is why I shop at Calvin’s. Bonus: no EBT people.

We need an HEB takeover.

I read that HEB tried expanding into Louisiana some time ago in the Lake Charles area and it didn’t work out.

I'm curious the changes Aldi will bring to all the Winn-Dixies they now own with the recent acquisition, other than the pharmacy department closures.

Winn-Dixies have gotten better in the past 5 years. The one I shop at is great but the brand was doomed.

I rarely go into a grocery store anymore. Kroger delivery and Costco for 95% of my buys.

The loyalty to grocery stores is strange to me. HEB is nice (more Hispanic selections) but it’s still just a store. I don’t understand the cult following.

Rouses can vary a lot from one store to another.

I’ve never been to HEB, but their high end offering, Central Market, is the best grocery store that has ever been created. There is no other place like it, at least near me. I’m not loyal to the store, I’m loyal to what the store offers

I think I only stay living in Youngsville for NuNus. They can keep the Rouses.

That’s really true of all of them. The HEB in Abilene is an absolute shithole and the Publix in Gibsonton is a dump.

They opened a Pantry store in LC decades ago and shut it down. Those stores were similar to Aldi-about 20,000 sf with limited service and variety. That is how they entered the Houston market at the beginning. They eventually shut those down and opened the larger, full-service stores.
Now they are expanding in the D/FW market with their traditional full service stores after decades of only having only Central Market stores there.

They are a very deliberate company when it comes to expansion-don't expect a Louisiana expansion soon.

As someone who goes to several grocery stores daily to get certain items, I really wish we had a HEB here.

Brookshires chain here is Super 1 if I remember correctly.

I like Super 1. The ones I’ve been in seem clean and good customer service, always plenty of cashiers. They were pretty bad about not having good items or outdated for awhile. Seems they offer more now and have updated their inventory. Also they have good sales in my opinion.

Lived in a town of 4K for a long time that had a single grocery that fleeced the frick out of the residents who didn’t want to drive 40+ minutes to a quality store. Everything was overpriced and produce would spoil within days of purchase, frick that store.

I have been 100% completely disappointed in the steak selection at the new Rouses in Lafayette.
