Is it really that hard to drive a train, give a Covid shot, or fake a whiplash diagnosis?

You are correct on SUNO, a complete failure of an institution

My undergraduate school is one of those that closed, and it had a very solid reputation. Oh well, no more calls begging for donations is a good thing.

Millsaps is taking a beating.

This is what I understand the situation is at Millsaps right now. Something like over half of the 600 person or so student body playing a sport. Over 100 kids on the football team. The former head football coach now runs admissions. Hard to find another large student pool given what’s been discussed.

I think Centenary recently added a football team back to get in on the pipeline.

30+ years ago, universities didn’t care if you flunked out. There were people on a wait list to get in.

There is at LSU now, but that's about it.

The days that these regional/directional 4 year state schools made sense, such that we had to somehow ensure that there was one located within 30-40 miles of everyone in the state, are gone - if they ever REALLY existed.

Is there any way to evaluate a college with public data?

Amount of endowment?
How much is drawn from endowment annually?
Salary payroll?
Net tuition paid?
% students on financial aid?

It's more of a demographic problem. There are fewer people who usually go to college to fill the seats. Obviosuly, it's only going to get worse.

The whole system has built capacity on the idea that more and more kids were going to go to college.
The high school classes of 2023 and 2024 are the biggest in history. Starting with 2025 they are shrinking - and this trend continues all the way through the current class of kindergartners. We have seen this decline hit elementary schools first, as Jeff Parish and the Archdiocese have recently shut down elementary schools because of declining enrollement. It will start hitting high schools and colleges soon.

Some are getting more intergrated and have a strong purpose. Some could obviously do better but that’s all schools. There are so many tiny colleges in this country it’s almost silly.

Good b/c higher ed is becoming more of a scam each year unless you specialize or have a trade. And there are way to many colleges IMO.
