Man I used to spend 5 dollars in quarters (and that was 20 plays in those days!) trying to beat WonderBoy and TecmoBowl and the original PunchOut.

It’s what made moms in Kansas think a random isolated incident in Californian directly affected their kids. It’s what’s responsible for helicopter parenting and the bubble wrapped generation. And it’s tragic how that shaped our society.

Yep. I can't imagine many modern parents letting their 9-10 year old kids ride off on bikes and not knowing where they are all day long or having any way to get in touch with them.

Hell, you could go into an arcade and stay 3 hours and spend a whole quarter playing Galaga.

As a kid/teenager in the '80s, I was the Galaga master. There wasn't a machine in a fifty mile radius that didn't have my initials for high score. I still remember the trick to get them to stop firing at you. I did that once, played for hours and rolled the score over at least five times.

On the first or second screen, kill everything except the two blue/yellow aliens in the far left columnn. Let those two circle and fire at you. Dodge bullets for about fifteen minutes. Once they come down three times in a row without firing at you, blast them on the third cycle. For the remainder of the game, no aliens will fire at you.

Mall St Vincent in Shreveport was my hangout. Remember seeing Star Wars there for Bob Wynn’s birthday party in 1977. The mall is still there but the movie theater left years ago. Sears closed awhile back.

Went off to LSU in the 80s and waited tables at Los Amigos in Cortana.

Good times.

Second or third wave you just avoided without shooting IIRC
