Parents dropped kids off and picked them up at a specified time and location without needing cell phones. As a kid, you had so much responsibility. If you had a few bucks in your pocket, you had to figure out a way to make it last.

Don’t even get me started on social skills.

The atmosphere also promoted more physical exertion.

Parents are still free to do this today.

We have people here that say shite like this then we have threads asking what monitoring service you have for your kid's phone.

I remember Spencer having the best posters. I picked up a giant Rush poster and Led Zeppelin poster that basically became wallpaper for my room as a kid they were so enormous. Matter of fact I think it’s where I got my Cheryl Tiegs and Cheryl Ladd posters too.

Wrong band. The Backstreet Boys are all great guys who are happily married to women and have kids. Maybe N SYNC or New Kids on the Block. They have guys married to other guys.

Not only was I a mall rat but my first job was at the mall. I went inside there last Christmas and all those old memories came rushing back. I sure do miss that place.

IMO it’s too bad things aren’t that way today......

It's funny how people long for the way things were when they were young. Yes, the 80s were the greatest decade ever, but mall culture pretty much destroyed a lot of small town and city downtowns, which had mom and pop shops and shopping districts with individual storefronts.

I've never had a better corn dog--Singing River Mall, Gautier MS.

Sad to see they're down to 4 locations now. Sad.

This thread is hitting the nostalgia feels hard. Sound Shop. Record Bar. Somehow Spencer's Gifts is still around. The arcade and movie theaters.

Those where my teenage and college years. It was such a wonderful time in this country. I wish we could go back to those innocent days.

Hell, you could go into an arcade and stay 3 hours and spend a whole quarter playing Galaga.

For me the mall was all about the video arcade and shopping for albums on CD back in the day. The CDs came in "longboxes" and cost like 20 bucks in 1987 dollars.

I can DEFINITELY smell those pics. Spencers had a certain smell that just made you feel like you were on the edge of the "adult" world. The sexual gag gifts and almost porn posters.... man.
