CLINTON, S.C. — Parents of a 7-year-old South Carolina girl said she died one minute into a surgery to have her tonsils removed. Paisley Elizabeth Grace Cogsdill died Friday at a medical center in Greenwood, WHNS-TV reported. Family members said the girl snored in her sleep but was otherwise healthy.
The girl's heart stopped and doctors were unable to revive her, the parents said. An autopsy was expected to determine the official cause of death. Cogsdill was a straight-A student at Clinton Elementary School who had an attitude full of joy, according to her obituary.
"You don't understand why these things happen but we know it was God's plan and that's the only thing that can get us through," said Mary Beth Truelock, Paisley's grandmother.

What is the point of a thread like this?

We need common sense doctor control.

To scare middle aged women against having their kids get a tonsillectomy.
OP probably runs a Homeopathic medicine practice.

I imagine the girl had unforeseen prior medical conditions.
Terrible for the parents.
Terrible for the doctors, too. I figure they have to wonder what went wrong.

Wow how very sad.
I had a friend who went under for the sinus surgery. He flatlined right away like that. Turns out the anesthesiologist put the drug in his vein that was supposed to be administered IM.
Luckily they were able to revive Ron. Makes me wonder if something similar happened here.

My first thought was anesthesia complication, like an airway issue or medication reaction.

The local news article has a lot more pictures, home videos, and interviews with the families.
It'll ruin the shite out of your day.

No anesthesia drugs I know of that would cause cardiac arrest by giving via a different route. More to that story.

if god's plan involves killing 7 year old girls then it is a shitty plan. Damn, that's a heavy read for this early in the morning.

If nothing else it is a reminder that no surgery regardless of how routine is 100% safe, when you sign that consent form for you, or your child that says death is a possibility they are serious.

my neighbor's adult daughter had a similar incident caused by being allergic to the anesthesia. She was revived though.

My 7 y/o boy just had his tonsils removed Monday. Lord knows I prayed for days before he went under that he would be safe.

First thing that came to mind when I read the title was Malignant Hyperthermia. The doctors would already know if that was the case though.
