It appears that companies are just passing an increased premium to those at risk causing the increase.
So has the definition of "at risk" now changed to mean anyone who isn't vaccinated? Because I don't feel anymore at risk now than I did before the vaccines came out.
I take that back--I feel more at risk of attack from some lunatic that thinks me being vaccinated is going to somehow rid the world of COVID than I did before the vaccines were available.

Objectively, an unvaccinated person is at a higher risk of hospitalization (i.e. significant medical expenditures) than if they were vaccinated.

You're right. And from a mathematical standpoint, I'm still not at a significant risk.
Through this entire pandemic, 0.1% of those in my age group that have contracted COVID have died. And I believe 95% of those had existing health conditions.

This is amazingly untrue.
I’ve seen estimates that those who have recovered from COVID are 6x+ more protected.

Can we get a BMI surcharge or not compliant with A1C surcharge?

Okay (okay, okay, okay)
Just a little pinprick
There'll be no more, ah
But you may feel a little sick

Why stop there? Hit smokers and anyone else with health conditions as well.
My company's insurance already does this. You pay $50 more a month if BMI is over 30. And $200 more a month if you're a smoker.
So fat smokers pay $250 more a month.
I'm ok with it. You can lose weight and quit smoking if you don't want to pay $3k a year extra

I’ll get it all back when i conveniently slip on the wet floors in the office lobby. Getting Gordon and getting it done. How’s that for your workmans comp and liability rates frickers?

Unvaccinated =\= previously infected

That doesn’t sound unusual. My employer adds a surcharge to the insurance price for smokers and associates who don’t get a basic blood panel done (cholesterol & A1c).

Those two groups overlap.
The passports don’t differentiate.
The paycheck deduction in this OP doesn’t differentiate.

A company I used to work for had cheaper healthcare plans for non-tobacco users than for tobacco users. I enjoyed the discount.

I scanned the article and didn't see anywhere that it said this was being driven by govt. Sounds like it is private businesses making the decision.

Completely legal, and will continue until it affects their bottom line. When enough people quit or find employment with a competitor who is not doing this BS, then they will "reevaluate" this crap. The American workforce has more power than they think, especially right now when employers are begging people to work.
If the govt was not helping hide the medical field shortage of nurses and other staff, due to this type of stupidity, they would have changed their mandates by now too.
EDIT: Also, you could take the route of not participating in the company's health plan. Rates will rise, even for the vaccinated, the lower the participation is in the plan.

I've always been told that the government is here to protect us against tyranny of capitalism. I guess our new fascist regime is just going to do what fascists do.

My employer has a tobacco use surcharge. They actually impose it on everyone, and you have to sign a document attesting you are not a tobacco user to get it lifted.
Assuming the vaccines get FDA approval, how would this be any different? Companies are making an actuarial projection that non-vaccinated folks will cost them more in medical care.

Some do. They just do it as incentives by offering you a cut in your health insurance rate from the base us fatties have to pay in full.

The better question is, how'd the OT become overrun by mental midgets?
