30 Year Anniversary: Which of these 1996 half ton trucks would you select?

You can get (1) of these in factory new condition with the drivetrain and configuration of your choice:

Not a truck guy, so I have no opinion on the trucks themselves, but I do think the Ford looks the best.

The Chevy by a wide margin. Those engines were solid.

Blue Chevy. 5.7 liter 350 pushing about 300 hp max but it was bullet proof

They weren't rusting out too bad by then.
Ford was decent.
The other two are jokes.

It is interesting to think about what these models were doing in 1996:
Chevy had a winner with the Z71 package and just started offering a rear door option.
Dodge was lauded by all the magazines as revolutionary.
Ford was by far the most dated but that appealed to many.
Toyota (and Japan) was making its first attempt at cracking the American fullsize market.

Damn, I was a freshman at LSU in 1996. Getting old

My wife's grandathers 97 Z71 he bought new has 41k original miles on it still sits under the carport and only gets driven every so often by his son.
But the good news is his 72 Bronco is sitting in his shop between the Corvette and the 69 Olds SS

Those are some of the best looking wheels GM ever put on a truck.

I'd get the F Series body
GMC suspension
Dodge powertrain (only if I could get the 12 valve cummins)

Chevy and the others are close.

I'd take that Ford with a 4.9 and a 5 speed. The last year for the old 300.

The FORD is still running
