Bischoff liked the announcers being in the dark for an authentic response. Sometimes that leads to a shitshow. I know Heenan didn't know about the turn, not sure about Tony.

It would’ve been better if the heel turn was totally unexpected rather than the possibility being floated as soon as he came out

NWO was the greatest “story line” in the history of wrestling

Is Hall doing a crotch chop there?

This would be about a year before DX was formed

Hogan cemented his greatness with his work as a heel, and a lot of people don’t give him credit for that. He was funny, ridiculous, power hungry, cowardly, and at times cruel, which are all elements of an effective heel.

It’s a shame that he didn’t have somebody equally great to put over as a baby face. I would have liked to have seen him feud more with Flair, than with guys like DDP and Sting.

as someone who was watching it in the moment it did not really register and was not a net negative on the turn. Bobby spouted random nonsense all the time.

I promise you no one watching at the time thought Hogan being with the nWo was a possibility.

The one thing funnier than that is the fans of that.

I’m a lifelong fan and at dinner that night before the show, I asked my brother, “What if Hogan is the third man?”

Most important moment in wrestling history. No Hogan heel turn means no Stone Cold or The Rock. Sure Steve Austin and Rocky Maivia would be rostered, but with no Attitude. WCW forced Vince to go another direction that America was clamoring for. I'm convinced the 90s were peak humanity.

It really is.

I actually liked Hollywood hogan.

It made wcw extremely popular and the wwf had to go all out to keep up.

Goldberg?

Hated Goldberg, but he was def involved in that. The Scott hall tazer and all that. It started getting shitty though because even Goldberg joined the nwo at one point.

Bobby Hennan was always shitting on Hogan, casting doubt, etc.. That's why he was like "I told you!" after Hogan turned heel.

Heenan didn't know. He was actually pissed off at WCW because they wouldn't tell him what was going on. He just figured it out when Hogan came out.

They had a great buildup for the feud with Sting until Hogan got to Starcade and exercised his creative control. Everyone in the world knew Sting needed to go over that night and he made it as dumb and confusing as possible.

They did an amazing job producing all of that back then. Must see TV.

It’s even funnier when you realize that all of it is scripted
