The archdiocese said it has seen a significantly low rate of re-registration for the fall because of ongoing health concerns and mass unemployment which has resulted in families being unable to pay tuition.

The cancellation of masses has also hurt the archdiocese's ability to support schools

26 schools are closing completely. 2 additional schools will close via a merger with a third school.

This is across the Archdiocese of NY and the Diocese of Brooklyn.

I know many of you have commented about paying tuition in the fall if schools will be virtual, as well as loss of income for some parents. Looks like NY is having that problem as well.

Why would anyone pay tuition for private school “online” learning?

These educators are so arrogant to think that consumers will pay for “whatever they deem adequate”.

People vote with their wallet.

It’s tough. I’m not paying Catholic school tuition for online learning when public is free.
I have no clue what the educational situation in NY is, but I wonder where those kids are going to go. What happens if they get to reopen to full time school?

I did not see the article state the schools were closing because people won't pay for online learning. They are closing because they can't reopen

It’s probably more due to everyone leaving New York.

Cost of living in NY is insane. Maybe if these people left NY they could establish their school system of choice elsewhere.

My kids CHS (generic not BR's CHS) is opening up to on Campus classes sort of. The kids will be in pods of 14 that take all classes together and if 1 of them tests positive they (the pod of 14) will all have to quarantine at home with online classes for 14 days. Not what I was hoping for but a better option than the Spring.

My neighbor just pulled his kids from Newman and has them in public school this year because he wasn't paying for virtual classes.

Lol. What do you want them to do, offer it for free for a year while still paying teachers, admins, insurance, etc? What would you do if you were the principal?

I still can’t believe how the Catholic Church went along with the shutdown of Mass with hardly any complaints, especially during Easter. What kind of faith do you really have if you think you’ll be punished for going to God’s house? If you really believe in the afterlife, what do you have to fear?

How is the Church going to get people to come back to services? I think that Major League Baseball will have less of an attendance problem.

Same with paying crazy high out of state tuition for Zoom college.. No reason to do it. Take a gap year and work or something .

These colleges are doing the students dirty by kicking the can down the road instead of coming out and saying they’ll be online
