I had a full ride scholly that paid for books too.
What I'd do is schedule 24 hours. Go to all classes the first week. Drop the two worst classes, sell those two books back for cash. Go out drinking on that money for half the semester.
At the end of the semester, the book buyback would be my drinking money for the semester break.
Ah, to be a stupid college kid again.

I have a friend who ran a bookstore for the owner. The amount of money that guy made is mind blowing. I cannot imagine how many university admin types were on the take

To add to the scam, the Professor would write the book, require you to purchase the book and pocket the royalties from the sale.

I started LSU 30 years ago (damn I'm getting old) and I remember some of them being a rip off, but I don't remember any that were $600. Some of them were $150.

Freshman calculus. They changed books my year so no used available. They must have had some new developments/discoveries in the field.

There was bio teacher at LSU that did that. He put together his own textbook and charged like $50 for it.
With all that said pocketing $300 at the end of the semester from selling books back made for a great couple of weekends.
