26 years later and I’m still pissed off about LSUs book buying scams

Pay $600 for one text book. Said text book will be studied for one semester and then sold as ‘used’ for next semester.
Then you go to sell book back and you get $15 and a bunch of excuses.
What a scam.
A big FU to all involved.

yes, and the used books always sold out first, so if you procrastinated you were stuck buying a new copy.

It’s only been 15 years for me but other than that I agree.

I stopped buying them at some point. My finishing GPA was 2.3 so it showed.

I kept a bunch because I wouldn't get much money back and figured it would be good to have these books. Lugged them around on a few moves before I donated them to goodwill.

Then after a couple semesters, they would change versions to push the new versions. It was all scammy. You had to buy the books when I was at LSU or it was hard to keep up with the material.

Had a professor want us to buy a $300 book for a two week intersession class. We weren't even going to use a quarter of the book for the class. Almost the entire class chipped in and we bought one copy and scanned it for everyone to use. I don't care if I'm admitting a crime. It was over 20 years ago and it was a crime against humanity to charge that much for a professional writing textbook.
At least those of y'all that used books got something back. My major was all art supplies and printing fees that just went into a black hole. Hobby Lobby and CADGIS lab got all of my beer money.

new book: $500
used book: $450
I can't remember if it was at LSU, BRCC or McNeese but I had a professor who wrote his own book for the course. He didn't get it published and charged students about $10 to buy it printed on regular printer paper directly from him.

UGA let you rent the book for the semester so the price only ended up being $100 or less. It didn’t work for every class but I recall the textbook rental being available for about 65% of my classes

I had back to back semester English Lit courses and the main book was an illustrated collection of William Blake poems. The book was beautiful and very expensive. Instead of selling it I said hey this is something I might want to keep.

Total scam, but we felt like millionaires walking away from that buyback with like $130 in our pockets.

The scam really cranked up when, even with a used book purchase, you still had to buy the $150 online key to complete your homework. Even if you were gifted the book from someone who already took the class, you were still out $150 for wileyplus, simlab, or connectplus, etc.
