am still unsure what rule was broken. All participants were willing, and they wore gloves.
if you were teacher and walked into people fighting in the bathroom, would you just take a piss and go do lesson plans?

This. We did the exact same thing my freshman year, but off campus. Coach shut it down when he found out, but only so we wouldn’t get hurt and jeopardize the team.

You know, kids are going to be kids. Slap them on their hands and put them back in class.

Mutual Combat should be legal and police should be trained to referee.

Well it seems the problem wasn't the dilapidated old Lee High school or it's racist mascot name after all.
shite it....
shite out....
And this little blurb here is why these little shits grow up to mostly fill Louisiana prisons. No accountability early in life means no accountability into adulthood.

filled out paperwork to voluntarily withdraw from Lee High. Most of the two dozen students involved also chose to go that route, avoiding additional disciplinary action.

Those kids were NOT forced into fighting or pissed off fighting. Just horsing around.

I honestly wish we would have sanctioned boxing in the school I teach at. Might would limit the number of fights we have "
Might would,eh,teach?

I get that you shouldn’t allow boxing leagues in the bathroom, but is it really worth ruining their lives over?

Why? Why expel them? This zero tolerance for fighting bullshite is why bullying has gotten so much worse and all the ramifications of that are manifesting themselves so much more notably today

We used to do this off-campus for fun. It’s testosterone filled teenage boys boxing with gloves on. This is a serious over reaction.

Well if they had just changed the name of the school this wouldn't happen.

You let the kids come clean the school on the weekends. And then you find funding for a boxing club where they can learn the sport in a controlled environment.

Which might one day save a life. If kids learn to fight, they might not break out a gun one day.

in middle and high school, our gym coach had boxing gloves. any time someone got sent to the office for fighting they were went to him to put on the gloves and "settle it".

whoa.
I said harsh, I never said expel.
expel would never cross my mind, but harsh in my day was ISS for a few days.

This sounds like backtracking... we’re all talking about the zero tolerance policy for fighting and how it leaves no room for a downward departure from expulsion.

These kids are effectively expelled from their school. That’s the harsh penalties they got. Are you ok with this?

Where were these fight clubs when I was in school?

Almost all of them are football players. Just let the coach handle this. A few dozen stadium runs as “punishment” and a serious sit down explaining why this can’t be condoned are the proper prescription. God forbid you teach the kids a lesson and move forward. Instead they let the kids slide by letting them withdraw from the school. What lesson does that teach? Make a mistake in life? Best solution is to quit and run away to avoid taking responsibility for your actions. Great work there school and parents.
