I have an 01 LX/Lexus land cruiser with 202k and runs like a top. Hoping to get another 100k out of it.

500k if you maintain it. Just watch the globes on the AHC and keep the timing belt done.
I've got an '03 LX with 210K on it. AHC still working, but waiting for the day I have to decide to replace the globes or swap for an Old Man EMU Kit.

I'm not sure about a 2001. We got a 2009 Rx350 with 140k on it for $5k 3+ years ago. The dash on it is cracked (of course).
I've had one major problem with the v6 motor. The lines going to the oil cooler broke and literally drained a ton of the oil out of the motor. Luckily it was right when I got to work so I didn't even get an oil light but saw the oil all over the passenger wheel well. The part wasn't expensive but was a good 3 hrs to replace and would have been easier with smaller hands. I hate their oil filters as well. But overall I can't complain at all about that suv.

Just getting broken in on a Toyota/Lexus

Yea that is a GREAT deal imo. Just pay a mechanic to give it a once over first and buy it IMO.

Pics or GTFO
This is the same as saying “ I met a girl who has banged 162 guys. She has a toe ring. Should I date her?”

I’ve got a ‘99 RX with over 250k and I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it across the country today. Don’t know where baw paid $700 or whatever for an alternator, but I replaced mine for less than $200. KNOCK SENSORS are the biggest issue by far! Located under the intake and very prone to fail and expensive (labor) to replace. There’s several work arounds on the web. From splicing the bad sensor wire to the good one under the glove box (to complete the circuit), to installing a dummy sensor to the car frame. I would love to get another one at that price. Pretty much bulletproof.

You are probably not aware, but there was a Lexus recall about 4-5 years ago about "cracked and sticky" dashboards. We had a 2006 RX 330 and had it replaced as part of the recall. They did a great job.

Even though Lexus cars are very reliable, they are not perfect when they start hitting miles after 100k. We had a '06 Lexus RX330, we sold it about 3 months ago, got $4K which is not bad at all after 145,000 miles on it. The reason why we sold it: during the last year that we owned it, we had to take it to the mechanic 6 or 7 times for all different reasons, from the a/c to water pump to radiator and on and on. My advice is find a newer model, you can find great deals for 2012-2013 cars.
I currently have a 2011 Lexus ES350, 104K miles, and the car is starting to slowly deteriorate. I can tell just by driving it in the freeway. I have owned for the last 5 years and I can't wait to replace it.

Yeah that was the first thing we looked into when we got the car. Unfortunately we purchased it about 6 months too late. Called a few dealerships to see if we could sneak it in to no avail.

My neighbor had their daughter move in with them down here...she has a 2003 model with 450,000 miles on it. I have one w/ 151,000 on it, rarely used...when she told me about hers I decided to keep mine.

Beware the high mileage engines.
This is extremely rare. Prob wasn’t taken care of to begin with.

Yes sir. 100 series here as well. I can’t speak for the RX but any LX, GX or land cruiser will just be getting broke in at 100k on the clock.

I would think with the vehicle market now. If it checks out good and has been taken care of that 3500 is a decent price

Very much so. Replace the timing belt if it has never been done.
I am generally OCD about maintenance but have a different approach to non-interference engines which the 1MZ-FE is. I run them until they break, oddly they never do. I put a combined over 800k on two 1MZ-FEs and have over 420k on a 3MZ-FE and none ever had the timing belt changed. YMMV
BTW there are some engines that are known to be tough on timing belts and look like shite after 80-100k some aren't even high compression/high revving engines, the MZ-FE family is just not one of them.

Some of the Toyota V8s are interference engines.

Interference engines are a whole different ballgame. 99% of the time the only negative for a timing belt failure on a non-interference engine is the cost of the tow. When they fail on an interference engine and the valves start having sex with the pistons you are going to have a very bad day.

Buy the kid an 01 4Runner and never worry about anything again.
I got my 07 w/ 63k in 2011 and it got me through the end of high school, college, grad school, and my first couple of years working before I traded it in on a new car. Still didn't give me any problems and was at 170k.
