Buc-ee’s received incentives from the City of Ruston, Lincoln Parish Police Jury, School Board, and Sheriff’s Office to open the 53,000-square foot travel center at the intersection of Interstate-20 and Tarbutton Road.

The city will reimburse Buc-ee’s its portion of sales and property tax revenue for 20 years. West says even with the incentives, Ruston will still make money.

The Lincoln Parish Police Jury and Lincoln Parish School Board will also return their portion of sales tax revenue for two decades, while the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office will return their share of Buc-ee’s property tax.
Kudos to Ruston and their other parish government entities for landing the 1st Buc-ee's in the state.

Shows that north Louisiana is basically Yankees now since they’re rolling over for a carpetbagger yankee Texas gas station

Nah, not in Ruston. That small town has more money in it than most towns in LA. They’ll do it right. It’s a great location along I-20 and will make a damn fortune. Good for them.

Arch "Beaver" Aplin III has made Buc-ee's a freeway phenomenon across much of the South since opening his first store in Texas in 1982, but his dream for the travel centers that today generate a fanatic following was born in the tiny Louisiana village of Harrisonburg in Catahoula Parish.
Buc-ee's is just finally coming home to Louisiana that birthed the franchise baw.

How does this work? Sales tax is a collected liablity, its not something that costs any business anything? So they are literally paying Buccees their sales tax revenue to be there? Is that the general idea?

It reads to me like they will refund the portion of sales tax collected that goes to the city.
If all sales tax and property tax is being refunded, what’s the source of revenue that leads to

I suppose local businesses might sell their products through Buc-ees and new customers who might not otherwise make these purchases will now impulse buy at Buc-ees?
Maybe the city’s vehicle fleet will be charged less for gas at Buc-ees?

Do other gas stations get the same handout?

More importantly so decent wage paying jobs for that area.

Bucees is basically walmart with fast food and gas. It was cool the first couple times I went.

Imagine being the owner of a gas station at that or the next exit and paying all your taxes. Might as well close up shop the day Buc-ees opens.

Sure, if they employ 200 people starting at $17/hr, and spend tens of millions on their construction.

Or since Buc-ees isn't opening up for 2 years, they could use that time to revamp their store, create their own brand/style, and try to compete. There's a small chain of a handful of stations in Monroe/West Monroe called Daily Press that does that. It's not a massive store like Buc-ees, but they serve hot sandwiches, burgers, and soups as well as good coffee. I'm not saying Daily Press can compete with Buc-ees, but I think they fill a niche that Buc-ees does not.

Interest rates from the bank for that year of no doubt millions of dollars

Are they going to give the other gas stations in town similar incentives?
