It is across from Rolling Hills Ministries. I was curious too and looked it up last night. Brookshire has also bought land further north in front of Karl Malone apartments on Hwy. 33. I don’t think anyone knows what kind of Brookshires there building though.

I had heard it was to be a FRESH, but that may have changed or was just hearsay. Lol, we should be on latechbbb.

I’ve heard rumors of Fresh too, but not even getting my hopes up for that. They’ve had all kinds of rumors going around. Some guys in a previous thread were talking about a Costco biz center. If Ruston had all that wouldn’t have to ever go to Monroe/Shreveport again.

So they are charging people tax that they don’t really have to pay?

Sounds like fraud to me.

And they are going to set up a district that charges an additional sales tax that will benefit Buc-ees. Sounds like a hell of a deal for Buc-ees.

The amount of absolute morons in this thread is unreal. I guess i shouldn't be surprised plant operators and valve salesman don't understand basic economics.

There are a multitude of incredibly misinformed posts in this thread, but this one takes the cake by a mile.

All I know about this deal is what I’ve heard here.

But if they are charging for tax knowing full well they don’t have to pay it please explain how it’s not fraud.

The sales tax monies are collected on behalf of the City of Ruston ie the city of Ruston owns that money. They've said "hey Buccees, if you locate here, we'll give you that cash that you collected on our behalf."

Are you slow?

Lol. You just explained the fraud, dope.

From whom was the money collected and on what pretenses?

What? The United States has had sales taxes for over 100 years.

And in the case of this deal specifically, the City has statutory authority to enter into these agreements.

It's incredible how much money citizens pay in taxes and yet have absolutely zero interest in having even a cursory understanding of how they work.

You posted a link on an earlier page for Texas municipalities who have entered special agreements with businesses. I found it pretty interesting. If anyone cares to look up Ennis or Royce City, TX you will see that both of these newer Bucees entered into similar agreements with those local municipalities. It appears that what the going rate is to get a bucees. Thanks for the link.

Just because they have authority to commit fraud does not change the nature of the fraud.

When buccee gives you a receipt and it says 10% sales tax but then they know full well that only 8% is is going to tax and the other 2% is actually going back to them, then that is fraud. (Numbers are just an example).

That's not how this works. I've already explained it to you once, but it's also written out extremely simple in the agreement as well if you want to read it there. Buccees has to collect the tax, file a sales tax return, and remit that money to the City. The City will then refund the money, in the same amount, back to Buccees.

The City has a statutory ability to enter into economic development deals that do not exceed remittances and that do not come from restricted monies. You can not like that, but your contention that it is fraud is, in short, retarded.

Customer is billed 10% for tax.

Bucees and hthe government know full damn well they are only liable for 8% and are keeping 2% for themselves.

Fraud.

Some might view it as taxation without representation. There’s been at least one war fought over the issue.

The actual tax and the statute allowing the City the ability to enter into these agreements were both Constitutionally written into state law.

This is embarrassing. It's like some of you just found out you've been paying sales tax for your entire life.
