Imagine being a small government conservative and thinking that an essential role of government is to help a company to open a convenience store and gas station in an area that already has convenience stores and gas stations.

If they are building up here in northla now, I think it’s a good sign they’ll be coming to i10 near future. Seems like either a little east or west of Lafayette would be a great spot.

Ruston is also setting up an 80,000-acre economic development district allowing Buc-ee’s to recoup an additional 2% in sales tax over 20 years.

The city of Ruston total area isn’t 80,000 acres. I guess the entire city gets to help pay for Buc-ee’s to come to town? Ruston already has one of the highest sales tax rates in the entire state.

Hopefully never (in Lafayette Parish) if they're expecting 20 years of tax incentives for a gas station mall. Scott-exit boudin capital of the world is doing fine.

Sales tax is collected as an agent of the state, it shouldn't make any difference on your margins in theory.

What? If you get 9% of every sale back from the state, then your margin is 9% greater by definition. With this advantage, you can sell at a lower price than your competitors and make the same or more profit on each sale.

The theory is really simple

The theory that lower taxes stimulate growth, no matter the size. I agree.

Government picking who gets lower taxes and who doesn’t is bullshite.

How far up? Seems odd to need one north of the one on 20. Can’t be that far from there.

Daily Press

I was a big fan of Daily Press when I lived in Monroe. Definitely solid for what it is. I'd hate to see them impacted by this Bucees. Luckily, they have locations that will be far enough from this Bucees and continue to get the local support while Bucees gets the passing through interstate traffic.

It is across from Rolling Hills Ministries. I was curious too and looked it up last night. Brookshire has also bought land further north in front of Karl Malone apartments on Hwy. 33. I don’t think anyone knows what kind of Brookshires there building though.

I mean, sure, but the reality is Ruston can have a Buccees and get all the ancillary economic benefit, or it can't. And incentives are a way to get businesses to locate in an area.

There's a lot of bullshite in all aspects of life, hate the player, not the game.

I’m sure the local gas stations in this parish would love to have their tax burden lowered, as well.

Shows that north Louisiana is basically Yankees now since they’re rolling over for a carpetbagger yankee Texas gas station

We’ve ALWAYS been called South Arky or Yankees, like it’s still some sort of grand insult. Lol! Now, I’m glad to be as far away as possible from that cesspool in Baton Rouge.
The mayor is Ruston is easily the best in the State…by a mile. RSN is a very nice town & a great fit for a project like this.
I wonder what your thoughts were…way back in 2017 when they were thinking about building one in BTR? The same?

You are right, let’s tax them to closure.

I don’t hate Bucee’s at all. Quite the opposite, I despise the governments that do it.

since Buc-ees isn't opening up for 2 years, they could use that time to revamp their store, create their own brand/style, and try to compete

This is what is actually happening around Texas because of buccees. If the competitors open something with clean restrooms, a niche specialty, and easy in and out then they will win more customers with buccees competition than before buccees. It's all in how they decide the want to compete and run their business.

I personally avoid the circus that is buc cees now.

How about the government stop meddling and picking winners and losers? Sounds crazy, I know.

Also: why are the other gas stations able to stay open after paying taxes, but Buc'ees isn't?

Oh, you mean the government benefits. Neat!
