Did it show you the total amount, or did it just say "do you agree to 9x the normal rate?" Because if they're asking people in this country to do math...

Sounds like your opinion is legit.

what justification does uber have for this? gas suddenly quintuple in price after the concert?

Pretty simple... (# of people who want a ride) / (# of cars available). As that ratio increases so does the price multiplier, and the inverse it true as well.

It's called supply and demand. Not gouging. It's advanced level economics.

taxi services do this as well?

oh yeah, they're not allowed to by law.

I knew it was going to be 9X's the current rate because 1) I'm not a tard 2) It states it pretty clearly.

Did they not know the ride there cost them over $100? I've never used Uber but if I knew I was charged that for the trip there I wouldn't use it on the way back. If Uber was my only choice then I'm certainly paying attention to the rates.

Right...they just turn off the meter and make up a flat rate

Two cabs from the quarter to Metairie the weekend of red dress run...one was $60, the other was $30

Uber drivers have about a billion times the accountability/forced honesty that taxi drivers do

that woman is a fricking idiot plain and simple

you have to go through like 5 layers of idiot proofing to even get an Uber during surge pricing

I'm 100% sure I could navigate the app drunk as shite and still not remember the next day.

From what I have read Uber is treating their drivers worse and worse. I am seeing the results in Atlanta. I mean I am getting cheaper and cheaper rides here...but the quality of driver is definitely going down.

ETA: I have read that Lyft treats their "employees" a lot better.

Still cheaper than Uber.

But yes it is clearly marked in the app that they are price gouging. Lady is dumb for accepting it, not to mention even trying it after the $100 ride there.

i'm not quite sure i get the hero worship for uber around here. are OTers driving for uber or something and trying to peddle the service?

if not, it seems like you're paying about the same or possibly WAY more than a taxi and padding uber's CEO's pockets.

Even if I was blackout drunk, I would still realize it was telling me the price is going to be absurd.

That stupid people don't want to be held accountable for paying a price they agreed four separate times to pay?

Well, then these people should've called a taxi.

Uber isn't the only service available.

They are the only ones at fault.
