You weren’t there for her walk around, and I’d bet the farm there was no visible defects with the gear. Walk arounds aren’t the measure of a good stick, last time I checked. I haven’t done one in years, but that’s a bad example because I’m an average pilot on a good day.

I did mine when I was 17. I seem to remember that you had to do takeoff and landing at two separate airports that were a couple of hundred miles apart. Then you came back.
I got special dispensation to spend the night at one of the airports on my cross-country because I had a girl I was sweet on in Tyler, Texas.

Not really sure. It’s just something I hear flight engineers grumbling about doing while I drink coffee and “flight plan”

As a half-assed mechanic myself, the dropping of the entire wheel assembly points to a mechanic who left the job of bolting up the assembly undone - maybe thinking he'd finish up on another day. (maybe clamped together well enough to move the plane in a hanger?) And a horrific lack of communication on his, and his fellow workers part. (And yes, this is total speculation on my part)
And she would have to pick up half the plane to notice it (if even then). The thing held together through taxi and the runway - and until the plane was airborne.

My sister crashed our perfectly fine Cessna into another plane before she even got off the ground when she was around that age.

I heard an ATC "best of" tape once. This Kingair pilot had some problems, but had the million dollar voice.
Kingair: Houston Tower, Kingaaaaaieeerrr Niner eight Alpha.
Tower: Go ahead 98 A.
Kingair: [in a leisurely drawl] 98A in severe turbulence. One turning, one burning. Fuel critical. Partial instrumentation failure. Request straight in approach.
Tower: Uhhhhh. 98A, are you declaring an emergency?
Kingair: [up to this point, voice has been steady and cool as ice]: YOU'RE frickING A I'M DECLARING AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!
