Both parents are AF Academy grads, and Maggie wants to serve as a fighter pilot

If her parents were graduates of Annapolis and flew off carriers, this incident would have never happened. She needs to do the sensible thing and go to a branch of service that actually teaches their pilots to fly properly.

Perhaps yours is referred to as a 'wander around'...

There was an aircraft at MSY that lost one of its tires upon landing at the airport. Straight up rolled passed the plane after landing. Was due to the tire basically being 'overtighten' during its maintenance. I had pictures of it on my phone but this was before sim cards and all that stuff. This young lady did a fantastic job. Kindly off yourself. Thanks.

She sounded terrified at first, but became calm before she touched down. I say she passed her solo with flying colors.

Keeping her in the air was a GREAT call. It gave her time to get composed and to accept the situation.

I heard an ATC "best of" tape once. This Kingair pilot had some problems, but had the million dollar voice.

Kingair: Houston Tower, Kingaaaaaieeerrr Niner eight Alpha.

Tower: Go ahead 98 A.

Kingair: [in a leisurely drawl] 98A in severe turbulence. One turning, one burning. Fuel critical. Partial instrumentation failure. Request straight in approach.

Tower: Uhhhhh. 98A, are you declaring an emergency?

Kingair: [up to this point, voice has been steady and cool as ice]: YOU'RE frickING A I'M DECLARING AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!

I was on a plane out of Atlanta to Charleston. The cabin was quickly filling with acrid smoke. The pilot and tower could be heard by all (maybe the pilot did it on purpose?)

Pilot said: Cabin filling with smoke, request emergency landing
Tower said: Get into position behind Delta-something
Pilot said: This is an emergency - what runway do you want me on?
Tower said: Get into position..
Pilot said: LOOK I'm landing on the first runway I see, and from the north. Period.
Tower said: Emergency landing granted etc. etc etc.
Pilot got ovation, and then many handshakes and hugs after we got the hell off the plane and into some air we could breathe. And many business cards of people promising to testify at any hearing he may require us to attend.

It's like that twat doesn't understand that vibrations cause things to come undone or even break during taxi/takeoff. It's like that pilot that was almost sucked out of that British Airways (I think it was that airline) flight.... how dare that pilot not know that poor maintenance practices didn't lead to the correct screws being put in.

Exhibit A of why you should be able to manually control a plane

yep, and there is a good reason almost every flight school starts people off in Cessnas. They are easy to fly, stable and dependable. Basically the Honda Accords of the air.

The largest flight school in the country, ATP, uses the low wing Piper Archer at the same rate they use Cessna 172s, FWIW.

It has been a while since I've seen someone spend 6 pages of a thread intentionally trying to prove how little they know.

Yeah thanks. So I guess this crew is trash because they didn't realize that the bolts were the wrong size.

I seriously question this guys knowledge (not you 777 I'd buy you a beer at the crew hotel) about flying or anything surrounding it.

There's video of her plane flying with the wheel missing. See link. Didn't see more than that.

A quote of hers from that vid, "Thought I was going to flip. But I didn't. So that was good."
