Maybe I’m wrong, but doesn’t this just mean that as a student she was taking off at one airport and landing at a different one? I’d doubt she was a student pilot actually flying across the country.

It's -maybe- the half way point of your PP license. She was flying, maybe, 200 miles. Her instructor should definitely have done a better job at that point.
