Saw that figure being thrown out there. I guess that is about right.

At this early stage I don't see how they can even begin to come up with a number. But what does it matter at this point. People have to be saved, shits gotta get fixed. You reach a point in any situation where the price tag doesn't matter. This applies here.

Too soon?

Naah.

Only for cars. Homes won't be covered, or are covered by Flood insurance.

I'd say that's a very low estimate.

I normally joke about that but those truck nuts baws were out in full force this weekend getting into places where no one else could get with their jacked up trucks and boats. Good on them for their relief efforts.

it's a vague and unfounded assertion that should be ended before the rumor BS and speculation grow. $17 billion on what? Emergency relief? Insured losses? Philanthropic giving? Rebuilding? Just squash this thread.

$17 Billion in damage

Off just a bit, the Spring '16 floods came in at about $1.5 billion in economic damages. Early estimates are that this will be in that range. Still, Louisiana will be pushing $4 billion in economic damages without a Major Hurricane hitting the state.

Katrina was all-in at 108 billion in 2005 dollars. 17 billion seems very, very, very high.

It seems to me to be a little premature to be making damage estimates, when unfortunately dry areas will be impacted as the river crests move south.
