I understand that for a store to be open you have to have staff to work it

I know many people at this moment running skeleton crews because their employees cant get to work and have more pressing issues

I would think you would be intelligent enough to accept the fact we don't need a sheriff telling businesses and employees what is best for them.

I listened to the sheriff when he spoke about the curfew. I didn't hear anything about rolling up the streets at night.

So your reasoning is that because someone else doesn't have a job to go to we can't go to ours

If that's how you wanna twist it then there is no point in discussing this further

Well Gahhh damn that's stupid. Its making a mountain out of a mole hill. A person going to and from the airport would not be punished with this curfew

You're right. Sid is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Yeah. This onerous curfew on some of the most densely packed parts of the parish that are completely operable and livable might come back to bite him in the arse. I know he's lost my vote already.

Well if things aren't that bad then he should be able to send all the emergency response personnel from across the state back home

Why not let us and business owners make up our damn minds as to what we do and do not want to risk? That's fricking ridiculous that on a Thursday night I can't be out past 10 o'clock when a very large, and the most post 10 o'clock friendly, part of town is perfectly fine.

Gautreaux has lost my vote and any influence I have on others' votes for anything else he ever does. I wish him nothing but misery professionally

No you don't. The curfew allows for people traveling to and from work or pretty much traveling with any purpose. It doesn not allow for Jamal to be creeping through some subdivision miles from his home where he has no business being

I understand that. So if the entire point is to prevent "Jamal" from creeping through a subdivision across town, why not patrol that area or institute a curfew in that area?

Again, a curfew does not mean a person can not be out. No cop is going to arrest someone that is going to get cleaning supplies or food.

THEY CAN'T GET SUPPLIES BECAUSE THE STORES ARE BEING FORCED TO CLOSE

I'm a little rusty. Can you explain the difference?

Specifically, how driving on the road from 10pm to 6am is a privilege and not a right?

I'm not saying things aren't bad. I'm saying things aren't bad throughout the entire parish.

The curfew is to prevent looting in unoccupied neighborhoods. Institute a curfew for these areas. But that would require a government official to think.

Again, I fail to understand how this has anything at all to do with the curfew or how the curfew helps this in anyway.

I think you just like hearing people tell others what to do. Or better yet, I think you are the type of person who yearns for the kind of power needed to decided what people can and can not do after an arbitrary time of day.

Im sorry, it has been a while since I took constitutional law, but explain to me how being able to freely move about the country is a privilege and not a right in America?

Good. Someone here has fricking read the United States Constitution. How anyone can think that freedom of movement is not a fundamental right boggles the mind.

Obviously.

I missed the part in the constitution that says you have the right to drive from 10-6. Can you give me a link to that please?

I'm not sure that's a good idea for EBR right now... We can sit here and say "just increase patrols in such and such area." But let's not forget, some of these police officers also lost everything, and I would assume that every single one of them has been working their asses off since last Friday. The curfew allows for some of them to go home and see their family, get some rest, start rebuilding, etc...

I don't think you understand the staff shortage they have.

quote:

THEY CAN'T GET SUPPLIES BECAUSE THE STORES ARE BEING FORCED TO CLOSE

Id like to know how many people have been inconvenienced from buying cleaning supplies past 10pm the past 2 days. And if a store closes at 8, then they lose out on 2 hours of business. Saying they close at 8 to give their employees time to get home is dumb because the Sheriff specifically said people traveling to and from work are excused

never in my life have I pulled up at a closed gas station and not been able to get gas with my card.
