That doesn't register with people like him.

Also doesn't register that these jobs are what makes everyday life normal

And for everyone saying that stores are losing business and closing at 8pm due to the curfew, Do you realize that maybe these store owners are having trouble staffing their places? If you own a business that generally runs 3 shifts ( morning, afternoon, and night)but have a shortage of employees, when would be the best time to close? After 8pm when business usually is the slowest?

How about the business owner gets to make that decision for themselves?

How do you know they haven't? Just because a place closed at 8 doesn't mean they did it for the curfew.

Second time I have posted this

quote:

American Airlines has cut the number of flights they are sending in and out of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport so that passengers and flight crews are not at risk to being on the roads during curfew hours.

quote:

Mark Dennis, the owner of Churchill's Premium Cigars and Elixirs on Jefferson Highway, said his business has not been able to fully open since the heavy rains started Friday. He said some of his employees lost everything and begged to work double shifts, but they could not because of the curfew forcing them to close early.

"Even though we had people begging to work, we couldn't allow it," Dennis said. "I had somebody crying on the phone to me, what can I do? People want to work, they need to work. Everybody's trying to do the right thing."

quote:

Anthony Gallo, owner of the Cadillac Cafe on Bluebonnet Boulevard, estimated that 90 percent of his business comes after 10 p.m.

"It just seems like the service industry has been forgotten about in this deal," he said, adding that City Hall has not put forward incentives to help business owners who are losing revenue because of the curfew.

quote:

He said college students want to blow off steam and are tired of being cooped up from the floods, but now they can't. He also said many of the staffers at Reggie's are students whose apartments flooded.

"They lost everything and now they can't even work," Adams said.

Baton Rouge's casinos, which are normally 24-hour ventures, also had to operate on limited hours because of the curfew. Both L'Auberge Casino and Hotel and the Hollywood Casino closed Tuesday night and opened Wednesday morning.

Go back and read this out loud and think about pathetically stupid you sound.

Some people can't afford to miss a shift, even if they only make $40 a shift.

Do you realize that a store that is closed still cost money? You probably didn't think about that did you. Being open, even if you're slow, could be the difference between losing $500 and breaking even.

Its pretty obvious you don't own nor operate any type of business so I don't expect you to understand. However, I would think you would be intelligent enough to accept the fact we don't need a sheriff telling businesses and employees what is best for them.

That would be fine and a relevant argument if there was no order forcing them to close.

They are closing not because of a lack of staff. They are closing due to a lack of customers because of some dickweed going behind our elected leader's back.

I was poor as shite once. Poor as shite. If I were forced to miss a shift it would suck, if I had been forced to miss several shifts, It would have been financially devastating. People who aren't, or have never been poor, don't understand how a $100 can make or break someone.

Well Gahhh damn that's stupid. Its making a mountain out of a mole hill. A person going to and from the airport would not be punished with this curfew

Your other examples are two bars and a liquor store. They will be fine. Im sure employees hate losing out on money but many people don't have a job to even go to.

Im sure that's exactly what the over worked BR emergency personnel need right now. A bunch of drunk college students blowing off steam

The only argument here is whether the Sheriff has any jurisdiction to establish a curfew within the city limits. They obviously have jurisdiction over the unincorporated parts of the parish.

The Sheriff has jurisdiction over the entire parish, which includes the city of BTR as well as incorporated areas BTW.

So your reasoning is that because someone else doesn't have a job to go to we can't go to ours?

Except the sheriff had to go get a special order from the governor to shut the city down.

So since others have no job to go to lets just shutdown as much of the economy as possible. They were just that, examples. Now multiply that out with all the restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc. That is thousands of people without an income right now. Who all undoubtedly work hourly shift work. We arent talking salary employees who have to miss a week.
