What made you or anyone else decide enough is enough?

I realized that about 5 years of post-college life had passed and I wasn’t really making much progress in my personal life. It was easy to come home from work and drink a few instead of doing something productive.

I’m not even sure I am/was an alcoholic but others in the family are so maybe I am. I don’t ever miss it and it just seemed more like a bad habit than an addiction.

I made 8 years in December.

No question it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

Also not sleeping well is bad for you. D8 can help and has and I've had zero issues. I work out quite a bit and it helps with pains in joints an muscle while recovering.

Taking to much D8 you can be groggy for sure the next day but I amazingly know my limit with this stuff some how.

One year ago today. So last St. Patricks Day must have been a doozy to make you quit the next day.

The only substance I partake in is a Xanax or a muscle relaxer once in a while.

Congrats. That's awesome.

And PJ Congrats as well. And even though you quit on your own some people do need help, be it Residential Treatment, IOP, Addictionist Therapy, AA, Celebration Recovery and don't be afraid to ask for it. One thing we have found out over the years is a lot is genetic and linked to neurotransmitters like Dopamine

Congrats and proud of you for doing the hard work.
Your post is a source of encouragement and strength for some who continue to struggle with it. Continue to "work" everything that made a difference for you. God Bless.

I’ve used the 12 step some in this journey. I’ve been to treatment twice. But this time I guess I really saw the damaging I was causing to ME. Nobody told me to quit but I realized I was destroying everyone I loved. In November 2021 I was a 106 lb skeleton. Made my mind up to quit and now weigh 198lbs. Never felt better even with those 19 surgeries . But yes I do have a very powerful and close support around me. Thanks LITH….

I didnt do AA but appreciate what it can be for people.

I remember the day I quit like it was yesterday. I grabed the empty plastic vodka pint bottle taped around it so I could write myself a message I could refer to and never Forget and I pick it up almost daily as a reminder.

One side says "Remind Yourself of Why?"
The other side says "There is No Happiness in this Bottle".

I looked at that thing daily for the first 3 month and plan to keep it with me the rest of my life.
Since I dint go to AA I would sit and pray with this bottle and new way of thinking in my hand and reminded myself of the reason to not pick up anything to drink for LSU Baseball games coming on that night.
Lord knows with that staff last year it was a tough bitch watching sober. Lol

I don't think we will be seeing a reasonable response. Just more cutting and pasting.
