Congrats man. I completed a year off of drinking to reset my life last year. It was tough, but I took responsibility for my irresponsible behavior and I am better for it. Now I have better boundaries.

Congrats my brother. A little over 2 1/2 years sober for me. Best choice I ever made in my life.

Without delay I said “ No”. She said even a little, why? I said I don’t drink. This is the mindset you have to have. There are zero exceptions here to the success of sobriety.

Eh. I’ve gotten to where I can have a beer or two or a pour of whiskey. I just have zero desire to drink so I usually end up pouring out what I made.

I quit cold turkey as well. good on you baw.

My biggest problem is if there is beer there I’m gonna drink it whether I need it or not. I can’t go to a bar or tailgate and have just a couple beers. And have zero desire to have any. I have passed quite A few stress events that would have led me straight to a beer, but have passed them all so far. My wife has a spot on her lung and is bedridden and I just don’t know how long she will be here, but I have held on strong.

How did you determine you were an alcoholic?

Imagine if the quote below happened every time you picked up a drink.

Edit: also, congrats on the year of sobriety OP.

Congrats. No matter what your DOC is treatment including detox followed by regular AA/NA/CR meetings maybe coupled with IOP is the way to go. Sober living and changing people/places/things as well.

Louisiana sucks at many things but drug rehab is something we do well. Places like Georgia I believe you get one shot for treatment. If that didn’t stick and you need to go back oh well hopefully you have good insurance (doubtful) or can afford it out of pocket (also doubtful). Louisiana doesn’t have that restriction thankfully and there’s also great sober living communities around the state.

This wasn't/isn't a reset for me it was a complete restart/reboot.

I would be careful suggesting this reset is the right route to go.

Some people need to completely quit forever. Not just for a minute a month or a year.

You know who you are.

If you are a true alcoholic you need to stay away from the glass forever. Same if your addiction is h you can’t shoot up again. Will you be okay if you do it again? Yeah probably. But the likelihood that you can manage to keep it under control, especially when those addict tendencies kick in is pretty low.
