Lord Cantore commands it.
The naming of winter storms is one of the dumbest things ever. I don't think they are official, and only a creation of the Weather Channel. Hell, I don't even think they should name tropical systems until they become something of significance, and only then be given names like "Hurricane Megadeath 21" or "Hurricane Bitch" based on the amount of devastation caused.

Makes sense if comparing to your area.
No. They said for the whole state. They were saying there will be a line in the middle of that state that will have the worst of the ice. CENLA is in that line so your wife may see worse conditions than if she just stayed with you.

At least KPLC has been saying that Vernon and Rapides will potentially have it worse than others.
Oh. Great. Just great

In the models, where we are, it looks like the line between almost no ice accumulation and significant ice is like 10 miles and it's hovering on top of us
We are just southwest of Chateau Elan and depending on which local met you listen to we are either fricked (WSB) or in the intermediate area (Kurt Mellish).

Yep. Trying to make it sound more serious and show how bad climate change is.

SS/Buckhead here. I think our official forecast is somewhere between .25-.50, although it certainly appears (on the models) that we're close to the edge of the little bubble they predict in GA and that a 10-20 mile move in either direction would materially change things for us.

Well, at least they will have heat.
I likely won't have heat other than my buddy heater.

Winter storms aren't named. Well, except by the Weather Channel. I THINK they approached the NWS about doing it and were told to pound sand. Nothing more than an effort to get views and scare people. "Ohh, it has a name, must be a scary storm."

If they had an objective set of criteria like they do for tropical systems it would make sense.
But this is just a marketing gimmick.

I too saw a changed map this morning from my SWEPCO inside guy pushing the worst ice south with some ice, more sleet and likely a little snow for us in Shreveport.
