If Bridgewater does not lose a game, and he tears it up over the next few weeks
I'll love it.
quote:
it IS going to be hard to take him out.
No, it's not.
quote:
If Brees comes back and is not 100% recovered or his former self because of the thumb, people are going to start chanting for Teddy.
The same fanbase that roasted his arse for the first three games he played (and won, btw)
quote:
The players seem to love Teddy.
Must mean they hate Drew then...
quote:
There will be pressure on Brees to keep winning
I bet that is a completely foreign concept to a top-5 all-time QB....
quote:
Bridgewater has a better arm at this point, that is a fact.
Yet has only completed ~6 passes longer than 20 yds...
quote:
This opens up the playbook for an offensive genius
Ah yes, the secret playbook that Drew can't figure out/run...
quote:
with two all pro skill players on offense.
Will Kamara and Thomas only play for Teddy???

The bigger conversation is does Teddy leave if Drew stays next year. I say he will have to. The money will be too much. Or do you Montana Drew's arse out of town.....

Lol, there will not be a controversy. Drew will start no matter what, and he would never get benched. Also, Drew still has the better intangibles (pocket awareness, football IQ) than Teddy. He has not shown he can throw the deep ball either, so you cannot say he has the better arm.

When Drew and Brady played who won?
which time we talking about here?
The Patriots lead the series 2-1 in the 3 games they've played against each other since Drew came to New Orleans
in 2 of the 3... Drew had the better QB rating... including that fabulous night in November 2009 when the Saints moved to 11-0 and Drew had a perfecto QB rating of 158.3 against NE
In 2013... Drew did his job and had the Saints set up for victory... but the defense failed miserably and NE got the game winning TD with just 5 seconds left in the game
2017... well... that was week 2 before the defense finally decided to wake up in week 3... that game was lost in the 1st Qtr

How is a thread on this dumb topic 5 pages?
It isn't even worth discussing.

Bridgewater has a better arm. Except Brees has a substantially better football iq. He also has better ball placement.
Why do you say that?
I'll speak for the poster in that I assume what he is saying is not a slight to Teddy. You could easily substitute the following statement:
Except Brees has a substantially better football iq than all but 3 or 4 starting NFL QBs and better than or equal to all of them.

Posted on 10/9/19 at 10:56 am to anzalone21
There will be no significant controversy, brah.

Brees has one of the highest football IQs of any player to ever play the game.
That statement is about Brees, not about Teddy.

Wow, there's a whole lot of anger in this thread
. Lots of people calling each other stupid, etc.
That's all fine and dandy.
It still doesn't make the elephant in the room go away; Brees is way more accomplished, he's the established guy, this is HIS team (hell, his state. He could announce for Governor today and probably make the runoff just on write-ins).
I want him as starter. I was one of those guys who said "no" to the idea of trading him for Luck last year, when you thought Luck was still going to give you 15 more years, and Brees might finish 2019 and retire.
But this is going to be a business decision, and it's going to make for some awkward moments. Guys his age don't want to commit to a definite retirement, and don't want to guarantee they're here for X more years either. Brees probably wants to say "I wanna play next year, and see how that goes, let's take it from there".
Problem is, Loomis now is going to have Bridgewater, who likely shows he is a viable starter; not a superstar, but a legit starter. That's something not every team in the league has, that's something the Saints face if Brees steps down a year after Bridgewater signs elsewhere. And the front office knows this, that's why they traded a 3rd to get him in the first place.
"But we got Taysom Hill", people say. Hill is 2 years OLDER than Bridgewater, and still raw as hell, and nobody can play his current style of play for a full 16 game season and not start to break down.
I don't want it to go down this way, nobody does. In a perfect world, Bridgewater says 'hey man, no problem, I can sit and learn some more, get a ring maybe with Drew on his last ride next year, and take over down the road. I got time". And Brees says "I can do this, and I just don't want to have my last season here have this big injury stigma. Let me get those records, and let me take this team as far as I can, one last time. And then I will hand it off".

“Let me get those records“
It is not about Drew and the freaking records! It’s about the team. Emit Smith owns the most yards rushing but he is not any where close to the best.

Bridgewater had one good game and two ok games.
Seattle, defense and special teams bailed him out
Dallas, he did not score but manage to get us in field goal range
Tampa played a lot of MAN coverage and he was able to take advantage.
He has the plays on his arm, fir help.
Drew is accurate, knows the system, has seen every defense and knows how to dissect them.
I stick with HOF, Superbowl MVP with 19 years experience

For the life of me i will never understand the extremes this place takes.
Teddy is either unfit to be an NFL QB or he is taking Brees job. Lol
Teddy is one of the best backups in the league and just treat it as that. Brees will be the guy as long as he wants to be.

Yeah and Brees is still far better than TB in both talent and knowledge

Look, let me go on the record here- I want Brees as the QB. I want him back ASAP, here next year, and for the foreseeable future. He's a year younger than Brady, I want to see him last that long or longer. I want him to win Super Bowls AND to finish with every record in the books.
But it isn't about what I want, it's about a couple important things:
how long does Brees want to play?
how long do the Saints think he CAN play?
If those things match up, AND that timeframe allows for the franchise to keep looking for the next guy, then it's all a non-factor. You thank Bridgewater for his service, let him go make his money elsewhere, and it's business as usual.
If those numbers don't match up, you have to consider whether Bridgewater is better than your next option.
We ain't getting Tua, it's doubtful Burrow is still on the board when we draft. Same thing for Sunshine at Clemson next year. So that likely means free agent. Who's the next best guy out there?
