We need to have an honest discussion about the incoming QB controversy

If Bridgewater does not lose a game, and he tears it up over the next few weeks, it IS going to be hard to take him out. If Brees comes back and is not 100% recovered or his former self because of the thumb, people are going to start chanting for Teddy. The players seem to love Teddy. There will be pressure on Brees to keep winning, etc. Bridgewater has a better arm at this point, that is a fact. This opens up the playbook for an offensive genius with two all pro skill players on offense.

Bridgewater has a better arm

Except Brees has a substantially better football iq. He also has better ball placement.

If we keep winning without Brees, it just helps us by allowing him to recover without rushing. This team is good without brees, it's elite with him

This is not Manning/Osweiller. We do not win against the Texans without Brees being himself.

When he is ready to go, you say thank you to Teddy for doing what we kept him for, and tell him to keep learning under one of the best to ever do it.

If teddy keeps winning, the rush to get drew back ASAP goes away.. if for whatever reason we start to slip up, the urgency to get Brees back on the field will return

With all due respect to Bridgewater, NOBODY will be calling for teddy this year if Drew is 100%

Stop.

Brees is not losing his job to Bridgewater. That's laughable.

They don’t need to rush it. But when he is back that’s it. Bridgewater is not the starter. Sunday he played really well and made some good throws. Some of his misses Brees makes in his sleep. Other than this game the last two he looked like a backup. Not a starter. So no. There shouldn’t be a controversy

The best analogy would be the 72 Dolphins. Earl Morrall didn’t lose a game, but as soon as Griese was ready in January, Morrall was on the bench.

And Shula learned from his mistake he made in Super Bowl III. He kept Unitas on the bench in favor of Morrall and suffered the then-biggest upset in NFL history.

This issue is not before brees comes back. The issue is when brees comes back, if teddy won all the games and then drew loses 2-3 games.

You still trust Brees. Also, I don’t think the scenario mentioned (at least the latter part) will happen given our schedule. Again, if it does, you trust Drew.

Finally a reasonable response to the OP. Everyone else has tunnel vision about this convo for some reason

If you lose because of Brees, you can look at why. But if we're losing 42-45 I ain't blaming Brees.

So the only reasonable response is that of which is an opinion that agrees with you?
That sounds pretty unreasonable...

Why do you say that?

No just someone that says we will have to see how brees plays even if Touchdown Teddy goes undefeated. That isn't what I said at all

I don’t know, maybe because Brees is well known to be one of, if not the, best cerebral QB of all time? He’s never been where he is because of some ridiculously great physical talent, it’s always been his ability to read a defense, anticipation and trust of WRs being where he expects them, and putting the ball out there before anyone expects it there.

1 is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer who has won a Super Bowl and holds numerous NFL passing record who has done nothing to lose the job

the other is a young QB who is starting to really find himself again after a debilitating leg injury and potentially getting back into playoff-caliber form

you still trust your Hall of Famer b/c he's still the man who's led you to the promised land and has gotten you on the brink numerous times since

Taysom Hill will be punting for Morestead before Bridgewater is playing QB over a healthy Drew Brees.

Again you are talking about 1 game he looked good in. He did not look good the other two

Sure. If Brees is throwing 55% with more INTs than TDs, you think about it. You said the incoming QB controversy, and as of now that isn’t even close to existing. Brees proved he’s still all there, without a doubt, week one.
