Although I think eventually he’s going to put it all together for a pro bowl year somewhere, he’s just not available enough and someone is going to give him $15 million a year just on his talent alone. I hope Granderson is ready to assume a starting role, I think he is. Don’t even mention Turner to me. To get out of cap hell we are going to have to make tough choices and cut costs at places. This is one where you have to do so and try to maybe draft another DL. I think we are actually ok at DE with Jordan, Granderson, Kpassagnon if he can be brought back on a cheap deal and hopefully Turner does something. I’d rather draft something like Jacquelin Roy in the mid rounds that plays inside.

And in 2 years you’ll criticize the FO for not signing him

Well that's not fair.

3rd time is a charm guys, hopefully they draft the highest RAS score DE possible with the 1st they don't have this year.

The fact that this FO including Jeff Irleand gets so much drafting respect is an enigma to me. They had 1 amazing year for sure, it's been significantly below average since. The misallocation of resources in the last 4 years may have as much to do with the saints today as SP leaving.

Davenport still leads the team in sacks+QB hits+hurries with 31 pressures. Shows you how bad the pass rush has been

Oyamata 28
Jordan 27
Granderson 13

Sacks are great but he’s still affecting the QB more than anyone else. If we don’t retain he will be scooped up quickly

Davenport is still a good player.

It's going to come down to money.

I've been saying since game 2 that the pass rush has been bad.

I’d love to get Davenport back but not at $15 million annually. I would have gladly paid Hendrickson that deal but I think he’s a much better player than Davenport.

Actually you can pay him and he’s one of the guys we should def consider. He hasn’t done enough i garner a massive contract. You can sign him to a low risk high reward contract with low guaranteed money and plenty of incentives. Glad super emotional people lol our idiotic fanbase don’t make decisions for this team. Will we pay him? Not sure. But this is def one of the players we should think about signing.

Davenport is a good player but he's injury prone.

Tough call here in my opinion.

He’s the Terron Armstead of the defense, good when healthy, but never healthy, and not quite play up to the level of Armstead.

It’ll have to be an incentive deal. Can’t afford to give him big money. He’s been paid more than what he’s deserved this year alone. Won’t be upset if they resign him since Cam is near the end. Won’t be mad if they let him walk if someone overpays him. Pretty much where I’m at.

Correct. And obviously Cam Jordan is done. It’s time to shed both of those salaries.

So what you're saying is:
Our DE play is affected by shitty safeties and a complete negative next to onyemata.

Who would have thunk

Davenport plays the run really well too. Of course we all want 12 sacks a year but there is more to it.

I’d love a pure pass rusher to mix in with this group. We always valued the beefier guys who play the run well

Nobody is giving him 15 million a year. Stop it.

$15 mil isn’t all that much as far as pass rushers go these days and it’s one of the positions teams will overpay for in a heartbeat. I would not be at all shocked to see him get a Hendrickson type deal at 4 years $55-60 million.

Hendrickson has amassed 20 sacks, 17 TFL, 49 QB hits, and 64 total tackles since leaving.

Davenport has 9.5 sacks, 11 TFL, 24 QB hits, and 65 total tackles in that timeframe.

But the Saints would lose too much face if they had parted ways with Davenport, so we let Trey, who is obviously the better player, go.

He'll probably go to the Eagles like all of the defenders we drafted that never could put it together while in the black and gold.
