Seems like when he's on the field, he's a solid player. I mean, 7 INTs in last 2 seasons? With the question marks on offense, we could use every turnover that we can get our hands on. Hope the kid does well.

Why was he still a FA? Hoping for the best, but there’s usually a reason an asset stays on the open market
Of course you get multiple downvotes for asking the most relevant question. If he’s been as “solid” for Indy as some are saying you would think a team as shitty as Indy would extend a guy entering the prime years of his career.

You’d think you’d also go look at what Indy did. They went and signed one of the biggest named safeties this offseason for 60 million. You could also ask why Justin Simmons is available. Just because guys aren’t signed yet doesn’t mean they can’t play.

Didn’t say he couldn’t play, and Simmons is 6 years older than this guy. But if I had to guess he will simply be a replacement level player for us in the long run as his market is indicating his likely is.

We weren’t signing Blackmon unless Mathieu retired. That tells us all we need to know. If we thought Blackmon was a room upgrade why didn’t we sign earlier?

Burns my arse every time I see this.

Maybe Blackmon was waiting on a starting spot to open up. Safety market started going to shite last year.
Either way, he’s just an average starting safety, no better or worse than HB.

Is this a typo? Branch was the 2nd highest rated safety in coverage with a 77.8 (12.4 point slower than #1)
quote:
PFF Coverage Grade: Blackmon earned a 73.5 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF), ranking 23rd
And Blackman was 21 spots lower than Branch with only a 4.3 point difference?

GMs and team Presidents:
"Well if not for...
injuries
bad luck
just a few more converted big plays
ball bouncing the other way
plays not being reviewed
being a young raw group of guys
it's a procees but we're moving in the right direction
off field issues did seem to be a distraction
well we started off slow and that killed us
...we would have been right there vying for a playoff spot."
Just a few they all carry around in their coat pockets.

You read it above, over under on games played would be 5 or 6. For Blackmon to be available shows no team thinks he can stay healthy.
Here's a breakdown by season:
2020 (Rookie): Missed 1 game due to a knee injury sustained in college that carried over.
2021: Missed 11 games due to a torn Achilles tendon during practice.
2022: Missed a few games due to an ankle sprain.
2023: Missed 2 games due to a shoulder injury.
2024: Played through a shoulder injury (torn rotator cuff) that he sustained in the season opener, missing a couple of games.
